Accel Header Spark Plugs

Well guys I just want to hear your opinions on this one. Will they make the car run bad? Do they help? How much do they cost? Anything you know or think about them would help me out alot. Trying to get the car back together after putting on headers.

I used them when I had on a pair of 416 heads and Hooker long tubes. They are really only for when you need extra clearence between a primary and a plug. They can be disassembled which is a plus. I like them.

I hated them, i had three sets of them. Never could get the engine to run right with those plugs, then i said screw it and went out and bought some AC delcos. I will never buy a set of those overpriced plugs again.

Well its looking like I am going to need that extra clearance, is there another kind of plug that would still make my car run like it has my AC delcos in it but provide that clearance?

I've got em',they really don't give that much more clearence.I also have hooker long tubes, and I really think that if you ground on the tips a bit,you could fit a standard R43TS Delco in there, with a little patience.

I've not had any problems with the Accel shorties, but they cost twice what they are worth, and I'm not a big Accel fan to begin with.

I had them once, and I will never run them again. The terminals on the spark plugs on the end where the wire clips onto constantly came loose. All of them. Every saturday I had to take the plug wires off and tighten the terminals on the plugs. Got pretty annoying.

I used two sets of Accel plugs for header clearance.

Car really didn't like them.

Switched to AC.

Car is happy now.

One set of ACs lasted as long (actually longer) than the two sets of Accel.

Plain AC delco's are the way to go on a stock motor. If you are worried about clearance I would look into a modified spark plug socket.

People usually buy the shorties because there is no clearence between the spark plug boot and the primary.

If the plug "keeps coming apart" why wouldn't you use a dab of thread locker on it?

I do not believe that AC Delco's are a magic spark plug with the powers to make your car run good and that other plugs will use their powers to make your car run bad. It depends upon the heat range, elctrode length, gap, and material the plug is made of.

I mean I need clearance between the plug and the boot.

I think I got those plugs - but I got them for piston clearance, not header clearance - they were $30 a set from Advance and have shorter threads, thus they don't stick as far into the cylinder. The standard plugs I put in got all the ends bent from my pistons slapping them - I have dometops.

i am using autolite racing plugs. they are shorter and clear the headers well and cost about $23 a set. got them at advance. only thing is that they are tough to gap.
