Machining prices goin' up???
I had my 441 heads looked a today by a machine shop and the quote was up their around $460 for 16 new exhaust seats, 16 new valves11 ex. 5 int, around 10-15 valve guides. Pressure testing and decking, i personally have taken the machinist bar and measured no more than .030 deviation and have been told the head gasket is good for .040. Am i gettin raped or is it just the way things are.
Well lets see, i have great parts connection so i supplied the machine shop with all parts.
Stainless Steel Valves(all, intake and exhaust), Locks, Retainers, and Umbrella seals $103
Springs $39
Screw in Studs $35
Bronze Valve guides $35
Machine Shop Cost, $185 out the door. This includes a 3 angle valve job, and milling the heads way down, Tapping and installing the screw in studs, Setting installed height, and everything else, heads were brought home 100% ready to bolt on.
So my total is,
$397
I think you just ripped yourself off by allowing the machine shop to buy your parts! Ebay is your friend!!!!!
