More new motor woes!
well after fixing my other problems ive been having with my new motor and setting my timming countles times my car is now not running right at all. well like a week or two agao the car ran great until i broke a pushrod and fubared up a rocker stud. well all of that has been fixed and valves adjusted properly and gettin compression on all 8! well my delema is car is throwing code 15 and 23 and runs ok until it starts to warm up a lil then it starts sputtering and wont idle in or out of gear and if it shuts off while driving its a p.i.t.a to start! it is also using about 1/4 tank of gas in like 3 or 4 miles!
and yes you can smell it its very strong. it is also heating up a lil more than it would before and im not running a thermostat. b4 would run around 150-160deg w/ fan on. now it keeps on climbing and ive added colant to the pint where it woulnt take no more! it seems to idle if i just start it and let it run and it will idle all day with a bad miss. if i drive it though it will get to the point where there is no idle! i have to put it in neutral and hold gas and slowly let off gas and put it in gear so it woulnt stall and cut off.(i dont do this at no more than 1200rpm!) could i have some fouled plugs? i had replaced my distributer with my original cause that p.o.s that was on there died on me while riding down the road.(stock dist. w/ accel cap and whatnot.) i also had the no7 plug wire pull out of the boot but i tryed to fix it just until i get paid so i can get some good wires. well any help will greatly be apreciated! thanks

its a carb. with original q-jet and electronic advance dist. im thinking that if i swap out to a vacume advace dist and non cc carb some of my problems might go away but im very low on money! i have another q-jet but it leaks gas but had a choke and the one im running now the choke got broken off!

come on anyone!? well today i tryed advancing the timming and it helped i think it was to retarted the throtle response is A LOT better all the time but it still misses at idle badly and after driving it it starts to stummble and stall but not quite as bad. i mean i left school today and it went into second spinning so its got a lot better power but still the excessive fuel consumption and miss please help anyone!?

your dist is probably bad, or you've got a broken plug wire or something.
pull your plugs and have a look too.

i do know that my plug wires are def. shot but i do think i may have fouled a plug or two. i had replaced the dist with MY original one since the one that came with the motor died on me last week. when i replaced the dist i also put new plugs in but my no.7 wire did pull apart from the boot but i reattached it. im thinking that might be part of my problem but still i dont understand whey it runs good till it gets warmed up and then once it gets below 2grand it starts to fall on its face! also the excesive fuel cosumption! its gorrible i mean i can realy smell it bad! i replaced the filter so i know its good!

if its the original qjet i bet you money its the TPS sensor.
have you had the air horn off of this carb?
if your sensors are correct a CC qjet tunes it self for the most part. If you plan to do any type of real tuning with this induction system 2 things are essential; a digital volt meter, and a dwell meter.
the volt meter is great for checking your TPS, and O2 sensors (among other things). I have a wire back probing my O2 sensor wire that runs into the inside of the car so i can see what the O2 is doing while im driving.
the dwell meter helps tune the MCS, which controls fuel mixture during cruise and idle.
If your TPS and O2 sensors are reading right and you're still stumbling and bogging then its more then likely an ignition problem.

well i checked the plugs today and they looked fine but i am thinking that the wires are part of my problem. i just got back from school so once the car cools down im gona go out and try to do somemore troubleshoting. i keep having the SES light come on and its throwing code 15 and 23. Im also thinking that code 23 might be part of my problem. cause before just 15 would come up then go back off but since i had put it back together from messing up a rockerstud its been throwing both. and usually once the ses light comes on it starts to stummble.

23 is a problem with the signal MCS on the carb in my haynes manual. make sure its hooked up properly.. you should here it ticking away when the car is idling.
15 is the coolant temp sensor, in the waterneck, not signaling or signaling wrong. it needs replaced more then likely (pretty cheap)
Like i said before, if the sensors are working right the CC qjet pretty much tunes its self.

well i got my other carb rebuilt and i have a choke that works now and it runs even worse!! it spits and sputters acts like its getting way to much fuel same as before. it smokes badly too. especially if i rev it or just get on it and it is blak/blue and i thought that blue was oil being burned? i know i might have a lil extra oil in but not much and its been smoking like this eversince ive been having my carb problems. im stumped and 7mpg is killing me since it cost me $44 to fill the thing up!
