LS1er needs TPIer HELP

My first two cars were an 87 & 89 iroc z both I did minor mods too but this was in the very early 90`s when i was 16 years old and there were not a lot of aftermarket products. Anyways I have a good friend who just got back from iraq and he is looking to restore and beef up his engine. What is the most common & good H/P increasing mods out there for these so I can relay to him what to buy. Thanks

first place to start on these cars is the exhaust system, the whole thing from the manifolds on back.. the factory manifolds are horrible.. Its amazing how a set of headers and a catback will wake these cars up..

Is he staying with TPI? A different manifold or larger runners and base and a ported upper plenum would be good. A proper cam always helps on power, even with stock TPI.

I figured upgraded runners and maybe a throttle body would be good as well as the headers and exhaust but i wanted to see which of these people have had the best of luck with power & $ wise. Also I have heard someone say LT1 cams are great for TPI cars , he wants to be in the 3xx`s RWHP range so I am just gathering as much info as I can to lead him in the right direction thanks for your comments

Stock TB is good to 400 hp+ so a new one would be a complete waste of money.

300 RWHP w/ tpi would be expensive. Switching over to a carb or stealthram(high rpm short runner replacement manifold) would make that mark alot easier to get to.

How much money can he spend?

Get stealthram: Thunder Racing - Intake Manifolds & Accessories for your 1982-1992 F-Body. Gonna need the intake manifold and baseplate which is 300$, and the fuel rails down below. Getting the vortec version and some vortec heads would make a big difference.

Get some Hooker shorty headers part no. 2055. If he can afford it, SLP makes 1 3/4 inch primary shorties. Longtubes is an option as well.

Get a nice cam to compliment the stealram's upper RPM power range, call comp cams, I suck at prescribing cams.
