engine stumbles

engine stumbles

ok i can't think of anymore things so maybe you guys can help..
when i hit the carb linkage on the engine it dont REV it revs up maybe 1-200 rpm
and then stops like it goes back to idle but if i hold the linkage back mabye 2-3 seconds after the pause it revs up ....... i want it to hit man!!!!!!!!

Sounds like your accelerator pump is shot.

checked them both out ...both work fine...

any other ideas?? as of now im stumped on this one

i set the timing to 8* btdc

i'm not sure how you're getting that beast to stay running with a cam like that, and only 8*. Your throttle plates must be pretty far open. Bump up to 20* timing, stay on ported vacuum for now. See if that helps.

If not, keep your idle speed ~800RPM. flick the throttle, only revs up 200RPM more? but you can see accelerator pump shooting fuel? cup your hands over the air intake of the carb, does idle change? you're making it rich, so if idle gets nicer, you need to jet it to be richer at idle, if idle gets way worse, it's too rich, lean it out at idle. If you flick the throttle, and get a puff of black, it's also too rich. Check your plugs to verify that too.

sorry it took so long to get back ... ill have to go through it tommorow .. right now we think it has a broken ring or blown head gasket ...you know what that means ..when its rebuilt gotta build it bigger and meaner than before
