Just got a new 91 IROC...want to replace most things that go bad for max reliability
hey guys, my name is mike. i'm 19 and saved up to buy a 91 iroc 5.7 this week. its got 94,848 miles on it but runs great and looks like its been taken care. i was going to buy some power mods but instead i decided i want to replace the stock parts with new ones for maximum reliability. what would you guys suggest? so far I'm getting an oil change, new spark plugs and spark plug wires and fuel filter change. what other parts should i replace? even if it doesn't need it i'd rather change it out before it fails on me.

i just got a 89 RS 305
i just bought my camaro as well a 1989 camaro RS 305 TBI from N. carolina, very clean car considering most everything else you find in buffalo is salt crusted garbage. the day i got it home i started to check everything. if want maximum power/ fuel millage is suggest you start with a tune up. plugs cap rotor, and wires should all be replaced.suspension: anything that has any "play" should be replaced. i did an idler arm and a center link. my next suspension project is going to replace all of the sway bar bushings, replace worn door hinge pins, fix a mirror that doesnt stay in place.make sure you check all of your brakes. i have already done brakes and front pads. i spent 250 bucks at autozone 1 day to "get everything in line". also check all of your lights and wipers. i had 1 bad brake light and replaced the wipers. i bought my car from an impound lot, it sat there for 4 years. believe me the projects on an older car are never ending. if the car is clean solid and rust free you have something to build on. my car also runs and shifts great, also important but if needed I WILL rebuild the drivetrain and engine. what options does your car have? i've got T-tops, A/C(doesnt work another project), cruise, delay wipers, power windows, power door locks, theft deternt key, 305 TBI and i payed 2,200. i love this car, needs some TLC but nothing that can't be fixed. even with the 305 TBI this car is still quite alive, a beast when "you get on it". its fast and can easily be made faster. when im easy on the throttle i easily get 23-24 MPG. beats the crap out of "honda civic" and only gets slightly less gas millage. let me think 32 MPG piece of **** jap *****, complete lack of fun or 24 MPG v8 camaro complete thrill to drive- looks way cool, handles fantisic, quick. not a hard choice for me. So enjoy your new camaro i think you will love it.

Might as well change the PCV while you're at it. $3 and requires no tools. I'm not sure what else unless you want to tackle the starter/alt./battery which may be unnecessary. Just keep in mind a new starter from autozone isn't always better- get a good quality one if you plan on keeping the car. I'd reccomend a mini-starter since the full size often get heatsoaked since the exhaust manifolds are right there.

Hey man, the list is neverending. Make a list and then just go down it. Battery, alternator, valve train components, pushrods, rockers, gaskets, hoses, check electrical connections, starter, check all fluids, exhaust system, suspension, filters, intake system, belts, etc. Plenty of things that can always be replaced and maintained. Good luck!

you can use a late model blazer 4.3l starter, they are a lot smaller and just as powerful.
you can figure any part that can fail will. replacing parts for the sake of replacing parts is foolish. have the starting, charging, and AC systems tested and repaired if needed. make sure you have a good tune up, good tires, a spare, locking lug socket/wrench, and have the alighnment checked.
Unless you have accurate maintenance records for the vehicle, perform all the routine maintenance that would be due for a vehicle of that age and mileage.
Don't overlook the oxygen sensor. Don't use an aftermarket PCV valve on a speed/density system. Replace coolant hoses, fuel filter, flush the cooling system, replace vacuum lines, inspect the suspension and body bushings and bump stops (fron A-arms, LCAs, torque arm, track bar), check struts and shocks for leakage and wear, repair/adjust the parking brake system, check the B-pillar attachment at the roof section for cracking/stress damage, perform the basic tune up, and wait for other problems to reveal themselves.
