broken bracket...what to do

i am currently replacing my water pump and i noticed my power steering pump and alternator bracket (on the drivers side) is cracked. how the heck did this happen? the power steering pump leaks but i dont think it has anything to do with the bracket. i havent noticed any problems with belts slipping or any noises. i really dont have the money to fix this right now, how long can i go? could i have someone weld it?

all the coolant is from removing the water pump

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
could i have someone weld it?
Maybe so....

But do you really think that would be cheaper, easier, or better than just going to the junkyard and picking up another one? There's about a billion of those out there on TBI trucks.

it's really really really easy to replace. I have to fix/replace mine come to think of it- I have the same problem you do! Don't over-tighten the bolts!

I'm going to weld it all up, drill the hole back out, then sandblast and paint the whole thing black or silver.

Clean it. Relief grind it. Weld it. Then add an overlay or gusset to brace it further.

i couldnt get the alternator support brace thing to fit after i put on my headers so i left it off. is this why it broke? what can i do to prevent this from happening again? is it possible to find a stronger aftermarket piece?

how do i get the pulley off the power steering pump?

Take Sofa's advice and get a recycled replacement. Then put the brace back in place. If not, make sure they have a few more in the bone yard.

The P/S pump sheave is pressed on the shaft. You can use a portable press (looks like a puller, but specifically made for alternator and PS pump sheaves).

what can i get in the way of an aftermarket bracket(s)? Will i need that alternator-to-manifold brace if i get an aftermarket bracket?

ive been looking and it seems i can only get a power steering pump and alternator bracket seperately....im woried about it not fitting, does anyone have any part numbers?

i kind of want to avoid using a stock bracket because i dont think i can make that alternator brace work

thanks for any help

broken bracket

I'll Tell you one think that might work and you can do it your self is to use a welding rod called alumaloy or something like that and a propain torch I have used it on just about ever thing and it works great as long as it is aluminum and not a aluminum alloy you see it advertised on TV with a little machine work its hard to tell were the repair was. I have also have picked up rod at a welding supply shop for aluminum alloy you have to use a oxygen acetylen torch for more heat the people at the supply shop can help you. I know it might be a hassle but that is one skill when you learn it will help you a lot in the future in building your rod.
