Speedometer
Hi,
I just bought a 1988 Iroc and when i step on the gas and pick up speed the speedometer will bounce up and down until I get over 35 mph then it accurately reads the speed. I was wondering if anyone could give me suggestions on what is causing this problem. Does it need adjusted or replaced? Thanks!
Thanks alot for all the help I'll pull it off and lube it see if that does it!

Roc88 My speedo started doin' that right before it stoped working all together. I Had the speedo fixed and a month later it broke again. Hawks third gen sells a refurbished guage cluster fairly cheap.

Is there a cable running from the transmission to the speedo head? If there is lubing the cable should fix that. You have to unmount the cable from the back of the speedo then unscrew it from the transmission. There is one bolt with clamp that holds it under the car near the brake line. then pull the speedo end through the firewall. Theres a rubber grommet that pulls out from the firewall. Once you have the cable out pull the cable from the sheath and lube it with some lithium based lube.
