Cutting for 2.02 1.60's
For the 355 that i'm building I have a set of 1969 441 heads with 1.9 1.5 valves, however the valve seats have a substantial amount of wear to them and some of them have even had the seats cut and replaced, I was thinking that it may be possible to cut the seats to fit a size bigger of valve in each. SO instead of getting small seats, getting bigger valves to fill the gap. Is this possible?
Also the guides have some wear as well, and wondered if theres a good reputable brand of bronze replacement guides that would last me at least 50 thousand miles with needing rebuilt. Some of the guides have already been knurled(they are of 35 years old) so pretty much replacement is my only option.
I'd also like to have them all done for less than $450, because new vortecs can be had for that price.

Add the price of an intake manifold to the cost of the Vortecs.
Cut your losses, improve your performance, get the upgraded Vortecs with install kit from sdpc2000.com. Much better in the long run for the money.

Also in order to run any size cam in vortecs you need new valve springs, rocker arms, and machine work to BRAND NEW heads for clearance problems, so thats at least another 200 if not more.

Get RHS vortecs and you will never look back. They flow better than stock have thicker decks and are already machined for larger springs and have screw in studs.

any new bronze guides, with a tight valve clearance, .001" will last a good long time before it starts burning a bit of oil.
you'll probably end up having the seats cut way out, and new 2.02/1.6 seats hammered in. If you just cut the stock ones out that much, the seat area won't be hard enough, hence pressing in a new seat.

exactly, so cut them for any size, and you'd need to put in hardened inserts... $$$
