just got done changing my 305 TBI to TPI got the wiring harness and computer everything hooked up went to start it and it wont start engine just cranks but doesnt start checked for spark and fuel have both ive checked to make sure the dizzy wasnt 180 off and its spot on i have power going to the injectors and everything what am i missing want to get my car out on the road while its nice out and i can enjoy it probably something simple but just cant think of it any help would be appreciated

Does your check engine light come on with the key on?

 

not that i noticed did have the plug for computer advance unplugged so i could set timing

 

did you happen to do any adjustment to the rockers? i did the same swap and had my rockers overtightened....check for compression and work from there

 

rocker are adjusted pretty close maybe a little loose compression should be fine the motor ran great before the swap (with TBI) only has about 45000 on remaned motor never had problems starting before. was told the ECM might be bad so i dont know maybe ill try a new ECM just dont want to throw (more) money at it and hope it fixes the problem

Be sure to check the fuel pressure. I don't know if you have or not, but TBI fuel pressure isn't anywhere what you need for TPI. Hope all goes well!

If the check engine light doesn't come on with the key on, something is wrong with the ecm. Either the chip isn't plugged in all the way. Pull the cover off and check. The ecm could be bad. Check ecm fuses and all of the grounds for the harness. x-wolf is also correct about the fuel pump. You will need a fuel pump for tpi. The tbi pump won't cut it.

 

looked at the specs on the fuel pumps

tbi flow at WOT 40 gph cutoff 12-17 psi
tpi flow at WOT 40 gph cutoff 45-60 psi

so im going to swap the pump out next weekend
