Key Stuck in Ignition Position

Hey, I have an 89 Turbo Trans Am. So I drove the car to do a couple of errands today. Got home, put it in the garage, and the key wouldn't move back. It will move to start (Grinding the starter ), but I couldn't cut the car off.

So I pulled the ignition fuse to get it to stop running, and I pulled the ground on the battery to save it.

So does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

BTW: It does have the VATS key (Electronic Chip).

only thing i can think of is the gearshift lever is not fully in park, floating halfway between park and reverse, this would prevent the key from turning back to off.

Yeah, I moved it around. It should also shut off in neutral, shouldn't it?

Hopefully it's not what ever connects the gear shift to the key lock.

I had this happen on my 89 IROC. I had to buy a new ignition switch and key set. I even called some locksmiths to see if they could unjamb it and they said it can't be done. Take the other key to a GM dealership, they will read it, and get you the right vats value. Parts stores will sell you one with an ugly key and a vats bypass for about the same money. The column is pretty tough and you need a few specialty tools. I would keep the vats, the new wire can be run with a coat hanger or equivalent.
