help me pick a cam for my stealthram 383..HELP!

I did a search but alot of the posts are 2 to 3 years old and Im sure there are alot better grinds out there for a cam...I have called most of the cam companies and even called a few back 3 or more times and got a different cam everytime...

So heres what Ive got...dont know much about the motor as it was already built when I got it..

old 1st gen 4 bolt block..3970010
Holley Stealthram
58mm BBK TB
cut and polished 400 crank
Eagle 6" forged I beam rods
0.30 KB pistons that will give me 10:8-1 compression with 65cc heads
NEW AFR 195 eliminator milled to 65cc that suppose to flow 286 and 215 at .600
35lbs injectors
1.52 comp cam pro magnum RR's
all comp push rods, retro fit lifters etc.
3000 stall with a 700r4 tranny
3.42 gears
and basically everything else in my sig.

Im sure I need a small base circle cam and I think its gotta be retrofitted...

what do you guys reccomend?

if you need to know anything else..ask..

I wanna get this motor put together and cant without the cam..

thanks!

I would get a cam like this COMP Cams Xtreme Fuel Injected Camshafts: CCA-08-467-8 - summitracing.com check it out. Not sure if its a retro but I would get these kind of specs.

And of course you need more lift then the cam mentioned above with your head flow numbers.

any idea what kind of power will that cam give me?...actually a 230/236 cam is what Ive been hearing about......but the cam that you listed requires 1.6 rr....and special springs from what it says.

the heads I got dont have special springs or anything...they do have up to 600 lift on the springs..and I cant change my order I dont think.

If tuned properly with your setup and that cam, I would estimate 350-380rwhp with an automatic trans. Your headers are going to be the weak spot of your combination.

I think you were saying you need a retro cam which that cam is not. But I would get a cam around those specs for your application.

I dont think you need to upgrade your springs .600 lift is plenty.

heres some of the cam specs that I have gotten from most of the cam companies...these are all duration @50 and with a small base circle grind

Lunati:226/234-530/530 lobe@112
Crane: 232/238-539/559 lobe@112
Crower: 213/221-505/525 lobe@114
comp: 218/224-544/548 Lobe@113
236/242-520/540 Lobe@112
218/224-565/570 Lobe@113

why is it that when I call even the same cam companies they always come up with a different cam?

this is like the worst part of it, picking out the right cam...

CrowerCams told me that I do not want a cam with alot of duration and lift because that is what my heads are for....head are what makes the power and they told me that if I was to go big like a 230 cam it would be a dog on the lowend..

236/242-520/540 lobe@112" is a good size but some people refer match the cam close to stall rpm/ 3.42 gears good all around depends what you use it for/what rpm range do want your hp&torqe to be at

range? I have no idea....I just want the most I can getna dtry and run high 11's...and AFR recommended the 236/242 cam also...would it be a problem if I went with 110 LSA? I have a retro-fit motor...Im doing a search now but I was to to get a non retro cam..how would I make that work?..someone told me all I would need was a different timing chain...true? I ve got the retro-fit lifters...

I would run a 112 lobe seperation with the super ram it is more forgiving for a daily driver. Also there are many cams from companies like crane, comp,Lingenfelter and TPIS. Here are some of the cams I would run.

Crane- CRA119831 222/230 509 528 (This is the cam used in the zz383)
LPE-74219 219/219 560 560 (Lift with 1.6 rollers) popular cam
TPIS-zz409 226/226 520 520
Comp-XR276HR 224/230 503 510

I think they all have a 112 lobe seperation and would be good street cams.If you wanted more power you could go up one size in each company.
Sorry didn't see the 11's bit. Your probably going to want 1 step up from what I said. 230-240 duration.Your going to need a bigger cam to get 11's. I know a guy with a zz383.They make 425hp and he runs 12.5. I would think you need at least 450hp but I could be wrong.
