Underdrive pulley/Alternator problem

My lights flicker suddely on my car. Some sort of electrical problem... I installed an underdrive pulley on my car, and I think the amperage that my alternator is putting out doesnt support the pulley....

I bought this under drive pulley.... ASP Pulley, 1985-1987 F-body, 305/350, 25% Crank pulley, full charge at 750 rpm [Black Nitride]

how much amperage do I need on my car???

You can run an overdrive alternator pulley to bring your charging performance back to stock. My battery wouldn't stay properly charged just running the underdrive crank pulley.

Same thing happened to me, I got my car and it had the underdrive crank pulley but someone must have figure the alternator was shot and didn't match the pulley so I got an overdrive pulley for the alternator.

My lights and charging are back to normal!

NICE... why didnt i think of that? I was thinking about upping the amps on my alternator haha

i have 2 questions though, what pulley should i buy to match up with my underdrive pulley?? and whats the point of an underdrive pulley if I put a bigger size pulley on my alternator?

Most places just sell one overdrive alternator pulley size so it's an easy choice. I got mine from ASP for the serpentine system (88-92). Check and see if they offer a V-belt overdrive pulley.

Even if you bring your alternator back to stock rotational velocity w/ the overdrive you're still underdriving your water pump and power steering pump along with the AC compressor and smog pump if they're still installed.

There are 4 different overdrive pulleys I do believe!

I just went to this place and emailed them, they need to know the size of the crank pulley ( in my case it was 6") what year and engine and I needed the 1 7/8" pulley ($14.95 U.S. I do believe)
