Tank or block?
I thought I read somewhere that 82 third gens had the fuel pump mounted to the block. Is this true? My 4 banger has a pump on the block, but when I turn the key I can hear an electric pump. Is this a push-pull setup?

mine was block mounted, but if you have the 4cyl with TBI injection I think it'll have both.

So when I finally do my engine swap to a carbed v-8, I'll have to choose between the two? I actually prefer a block mounted pump on a carbed motor, but I don't feel much like dropping the tank. Just one of those things I guess...

yea, i'd stick with the block mounted.
I think you can drop the tank and remove that pump, and just put a "normal" pickup in. It's hard to draw through a dead/not connected/whatever electric pump, and you can just do one or the other. (I'd lean towards the block one...)
