305 needs some good flowing or cheap stock heads quick!! Tell me what you got!!
Well.......
I took my head to be ported and polish and what do ya know
my starting and over heating problem wasn't the gaskets leaking but,
the dum @$$ that installed the heads previosly over torque them
and they are both crack in between multipule bolt holes
.
So now that I'm feeling pretty bad I would like to spend money
.
Looking for a set of 416 or 081 heads or a set of good flowing heads for a stock bottom end 305.
Thanks, JR

Just buy some World Products 305 S/R Torquers. They wont cost you any more than buying a set of used heads, and then having them worked. You'll end up with a better set of heads, and they are smog legal too.

Well I would, but I got about $650 that was going for the heads work and world heads are $800 plus shipping so unless someone wants to sell me there set for $650 shipped then that is not an option I'm stretch thin.
Also I have a friend that has a set of JR Motorsports Performance Heads with
1.94/1.6 valves & 72cc. I know the CC are to big for my stock bottem end right? But if I get them milled down will them work on my 305?
Thanks, JR

What he said ^ .
With your light (LIGHT) car, high compression is your friend. 113's might be kinda hard to find, but 601's would work great, or 416's as a last choice (in those 3).
What on earth are you planning on getting out of $650 on head work? Like sheesh, that's a lot of $ there..

we for $600 he was going to fully port and polish
put 1.96 1.6 valves and flow match a cam for me.
But non of that is happening now
.
I thought that the 416 were better then the 601?
here are some 601 heads for $200 each
eBay Motors: CHEVY 305 #601 55CC CYLINDER HEAD (item 180044551884 end time Nov-07-06 13:43:47 PST)
what compression ratio & cc should I aim for?
car weights 2725lb with me in it
and like It say I'm running a 96 T-56 with 4.00 rear gears.
Any help is helpful..... dhu

no no, just grab some 601s at your local JY off an '80s chev truck or van. Get 'em cut for the 1.94/1.6" valve set, and port 'em up. CC the chambers, and calc the compression overall.
Depending on other factors (like cam), you can probably be in the 10.5:1 ratio. A light car has less tendancy to ping then a heavier one, you're not lugging it around sorta thing.

You could do LT1 aluminum heads for really cheap. If you don't mind doing a little extra work.

not trying to steal the thread, but how do you modifiy LT1 heads to work on a standard coolant flow SBC and would it be worth it? Can they be made to work on a 305?

You weld up the reverse cooling passages in the heads. Do some simple coolant flow mods and pretty much bolt them on. Theres a little more to it than that, but i did it. You can do a search and find tons of info.

hey Me leigh, do you use PM's?
Just had a few questions about your car, I think I tried to PM you once, but didn't get an answer. Just wondering if it was top secret and you ignored me, or if you didn't get it.

Everything you need to know about LT1 heads on a conventional coolant flow small block can be found here.
