425 caddy engine?
Is it worth it to build one? I can get a sweet deal on a 425 locally... totally complete with only 70k on it. I think they made 180hp / 3xxlb-ft factory.
Will it be hard to build it up? I see some cams for it... nothing else really!

If you are willing to pay for shipping I'll sell you a 472 with a TH400 trans bolted to it for 1000. Only has 80,000 original miles on it. never has been gone inside. Everything stock even has a brand new air compressor. those things are like $400 for this motor. Let me know if you'd like to get it.

I have a local yard that will sell 4.8/5.3/6.0 engines all day long at $1000.00 including accessories, PCM, harness, etc. $1500.00 will get the 4L60E/4L80E also.

It's settled, then - Don't shop in Massachusetts. There are 49 other states, most of them a lot bigger. I've been in salvage yards almost as big as some eastern states. If you're paying more than $400 for a running engine, you need to shop more. You can buy a new short block for about $1200. I can't see buying a junker for $1K.

I contemplated installing (or shoe-horning) a caddy 500 in my camaro...I found one in a bone yard for 300 bucks - for 50 more, they'd start it for me and warranty it for 30 days.
Of course, I would have gone over the whole engine before I went through all that effort of installing it - i.e. better heads or porting etc.
It's a major project, but it's been done already.

I haven't found a yard yet around here that has cars older than the mind 90s anymore... so junk yards are out of the question!
