89 Iroc questions
Hi guys.
I'm brand new here, and I just bought myself an 89 Iroc with the 350 TPI engine. It has the T top and seems to be in pretty good shape. I just wonder if anybody could tell me what I should look for to find things that needs to be done with the car. Common problems that I may be able to catch before it becomes a big problem. The car has a new paint job so I dont think that rust should be an issue. But then again. who knows?
I also have some questions regarding the engine. It seems like the engine has had the injection system ported and polished and a mild cam installed along with hi compression heads and has a 3 inch Dule exaust system. Is there any opionion about how much extra juice this means? Is this a bad or good thing to do to the engine?
Thanks for reading this and hopefully help me with my questions!

Well a must is subframe connectors . Them T top cars really need them before they start twisting the car. You will notice this happened when the doors sag , etc. As far as the motor . How can you tell it's ported ? Also about the rest of the stuff , how do you know it's been done , did the seller say it ? I just hope it's all tuned right for ya if so.
Nice car BTW
I have a 1989 aswell.

do a search for subrame connectors . You can get picks that way .They look like bars wleded underneith the car. Connecting the front and rear subframes.

If the car has been modified but still has the stock exhaust manifolds I'd say about 250HP or so. A set of headers would make a noted difference, say 20 more horses with the cam and stuff. Two places these cars will rust and not be so visible, just in front of the doors down low, have to pull the inner fender plastic off to see it. Can get bad pretty quick. And in the rear by the top inside of the tires. Take off a rear wheel and look in there. The factory fuel injectors are troublesome, and running fuel injection cleaner in the gas tank seems to make them worse. And hope the fuel pump is a good one, that's a job right there. But overall these are pretty good cars if taken care of, and the best looking car ever built - in my lowly opinion.

The car has a Dule 3" exhaust system, but it also has the original manifolds. Why would anybody go through all that work for 10 to 30 HP? I was hoping that the total was going to be around 280 to 300, but I guess I was a bit optimistic there! I will take a look at the issues that you have mentioned. Thanks a lot for the tips guys!

If you think exhaust is alot of work then you may not want to learn whats involved in other things!

Bolt on Exhaust kit is probably one of the easiest things your gonna do on most cars.

I was just thinking that it would be a lot of work doing all of that to gain 10-30 Hp. But anyways. It doesnt really matter that much. I am sure that it will be fun to drive. A little different than the S4 that I have now, but still.. I guess its going to be quite a lot slower than the S4 and not handle as well, but hey. I got a T top
