Are you sure you're not missing a digit after 1401441?

416's are stock 305 heads with small valves. They've got some potential to be reworked. At least they're not swirl-ports.

so it would be worth putting in larger valves and a mild port job?
say if i spent $1000 on them would they run better than a set of Dart iron eagle heads?

If you ported them yourself you'd be spending a lot less than $1000.

Cutting new valve seats for larger valves isn't something you can do at home, you'd have to get a machine shop to do that, but it shouldn't be all that expensive. At the same time they can machine the valve guides down to support more lift.

The only tool you need for porting is a die grinder, (air or electric, whatever's convenient), and a few relatively inexpensive cutters and sanding bits. Search for a post by Sitting Bull.

They are good heads... I have a set of 601 heads (very similar to 416s, slightly different chambers) with 1.94/1.60 valves on my 350 and they work great. Definitely a head worth using IMO.

I've done quite a few of these heads. Yes you can make a better head than the Dart 180cc Iron Eagles are "out of the box". In a recent back to back test.... Iron Eagle 180 flowed 208cfm stock. Ported 416's 1.94-1.60" valves flowed 233@ high lift and 218@.400".
(this is no where near the highest flow I've achieved on 416's but is typical average without exessive thin port walls.)
That means, you can do it too.
You should be able to finish these heads for Not more than $500US including parts labour etc.
You can do the conversion to $Ausie bucks$.

Note: the Iron Eagles are nice castings but the 180's do not flow well. The Pro Action RHS heads are much better.

If you don't mind doing the work you can make your 416 heads into nice budget performance heads capable of 400+hp. Cheaper than new heads. Will need full porting to get these results. Don't be shy. You cannot make these heads "too big".
there is tons of info here on doing these heads.
Search Sitting Bulls posts and mine.
