Problem with roller rockers

With the Summit Brand #SUM-G6906 Full Roller 1.6 Rockers, I had a problem
with the pushrod side of the rocker hitting my valve covers, Proform Tall
Aluminum #PRO-141-108. They hit when the valves are closed but not when
they are open. It's hitting side of the cover towards the intake, on the
lower part, not the top, of them. The valve covers need to be moved down about 1/8-1/4" to line up the
holes to bolt them on.

What can I do to correct this? Are there any other roller rockers that are
not so beefy towards on the pushrod side?

Install them correctly.

They're on backwards now. Turn them around. Put them on so that the intake side faces the intake, and the exhaust side faces the exhaust. The 2 sides of the VCs are not the same.

Re: Problem with roller rockers

Are you saying the VCs are backwards? If so then no, we flipped them every way possible, Tried the two covers on both heads, and even flipped them upside(which wouldn't make much sense because they have writing on them and would be upside down anyway)

Re: Problem with roller rockers

Looks like it may be the valve covers. Tried them on some old heads, and the holes lined up but the still hit in the same place. We measured from side to side on the inside of stock covers and found that they were about 1/4" wider than the Proforms.

Seems like everything has gone wrong with this motor :S (Bought 2 2bolts, first one was cracked, got $100 worth machined then found a perfect 4bolt, Balancer was too thick, Camshaft wasnt the correct one, still good but its the principle, Timing Cover had a hole in it, timing tab was crappy, bought the wrong lifters, carburetor fuel feed line, dipstick and alternator brackets, and finally now the valve covers aren't wide enough... wtf!!)

I've always found the harder a car makes you work....the better the end result. Keep at it!

I am dealing with the same thing you have two options here A: You can grind on the rockers so that you have about .010-.020 of clearance or B: you can buy a new set of valve covers. I picked (B) I have a brand new set of T&D shaft rockers at there price I want to keep all of them. Found a set of off brand fabed aluminum valve covers for $150.00

Re: Problem with roller rockers

i have the same rockers you do. mine are 1.6's though. i run about 630lift and stud girdles. anyway i have some cheap 20 dollar valve covers i bought at the local hot rod shop. i think they was made in china? but if the proforms are cast aluminum then they will be thicker and more likely to cause clearance problems. i would just get some different valve covers.

Yeah, mine are 1.6s too but I only run .541" lift, I already have some covers picked out, let's hope these work.
