performance guru Questions

I own an 85 LG4 camaro i was just wondering how much it would help and how much faster it would be if I got a CCA-12-212-2 from comp cams,a EDL-2101 for an intake manifold, SUM-G9006 for headers, and Motive Gears GM 7.5" & 7.625" Ring and Pinion Set with a 3.42 gear ratio?

alltogether its only 600 bucks i already have it odered, will it be worth it?

Re: performance guru Questions

that will be about as fast as if you were to push it...

that gear set... did you make sure it was for the right series carrier? just to have those gears installed will probably be another $4-500

Re: performance guru Questions

You're going to need a y pipe for those headers. You'd probably want to get a catback exhaust too.

Re: performance guru Questions

Uhhh... I don't know of an easy way to say this, so I'll just come out & say it - I'm guessing that you'll be returning/exchanging some parts.

First off, AFAIK, the intake manifold you've chosen is a good piece, that's the best part of the group. The description for it says:

Low-end torque with improved throttle response...

...from idle to 5,500 rpm.
Which is where 95% of your driving is, so you'll like that part. (Hopefully you got the EGR version.) Unfortunately, the camshaft that you chose doesn't match the intake:

Basic Operating RPM Range: 2,000-6,000

...maximum top-end performance...

these COMP Cams Magnum series cams require a higher compression ratio, rear-end gear ratio, and stall torque converter than stock.
Now I'm just guessing here, but I suspect that these are mods you don't have yet, & if not, it might lope nicely, but it'll run like a pig. And finally.. I really hate to say this, but from the part # you provided, it appears that the headers are made to fit a full-size truck chassis...

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the 3.42 gearset is a very good choice for a street car, I'd rather have that than my 3.27s...

The key to really good performance is to have all of the parts working together, like musicians in concert. You'll be a lot happier if you choose parts with that in mind. Good luck.

Re: performance guru Questions

You'll be happier with an Xtreme Energy grind. Factory heads need all the help on the exhaust side they can get. A dual pattern grind will help that. Xe262 or 268 IIRC.

Re: performance guru Questions

Yea, it's not that great of an idea to do up an order, and then ask on here if it was a good idea. Not much point then eh?
MWnova66 had great success with a magnum 280 IIRC, but in a much different application. Bigger CR, long tube headers, 4.11 gears, high stall, etc.

So, like Stekman said, step down on that cam. Go dual plane. That intake manifold, you'll notice is *very similar* to your stock one. Just cleaner. But you will get a nice Edelbrock sticker. I would have went with the RPM style if I were you.
And yea, how're you going to fit up those headers?? Luckily they have a good return policy. I'd look at a header/y-pipe combo meant for a 3rd gen. Think hedmann or hooker.
