Valve job or new heads?

Hear is my dilema. My valves are going and I kind of want to put new heads on, but I plan on changing the engine in a couple of years from now. So Would it be more affordible to have a shop do a valve job or replace the heads?

What do you mean by the valves are "going"?

Going bad.

I need to replace my valves in my cylinder head. So should I have someone changes the valves or just get new heads? I figured it would be easy just to change the heads, but replacing the valves would be cheaper in parts.

When my cars engines cold and I go to start it, the car shoots out a plume of exhaust. I would have to run the car for a few minutes till it stops. And its slowly getting worse.

Re: Valve job or new heads?

that means valve seals not new valves i think a set of seals might cost $15-25 much less than new heads

Just to chime in on this one. If the smoke never goes away it could also be cracked/broken ring s on your pistons. But it does sound like valve seals. And you dont even have to take your heads off the engine to change them ( although its alot harder)

it is not any "harder" to do with the heads on the motor. Requires compressed air to hold the valves closed and a simple leverage tool to compress the springs/retainers to get the valve locks out. Not that hard.
About 1 to 2 hours work and a few cold ones.

"shoots out a plume of exhaust"
if the big "plume" is blue the valve seals may be bad or the intake gasket is sucking oil. If the big "plume" is black you need a tune up. Plugs, cap, rotor, wires.
