88 305 TPI into my 84 Z28
Hi, i want to swap my 88 305 TPI motor into my 1984 Camaro Z28.
Also i want to keep the carburator (Holley 750 double pumper) and the intake manifold (Edelbrock RPM Air Gap) since the TPI motor came with a Roller Cam,
if i want to install a mechanical fuel pump, is there provision (Eccentric/lobe for the rod) on the cam to run these kind of pump ?
I will install a HEI distributor, do i have to change the gear for bronze ?
It's just a summer swap since i have internal problem with my 383.
Of course i have to rejet my carb !
What about the timing of this motor, is it the same thing to do as the 350 ?
I am doing the swap this Week end....
Any other advice will be appreciate.
Thanks to all !

750 double pumper on a 305? You're going to drown that little engine. I'm no Holley expert, but I'd say good luck jetting it down that far. What's wrong with the fuel injection? Have any smaller carbs laying around? Do you have the distibutor from the 88 motor? There is a lobe on that cam for a fuel pump, and the block will still accept one.

About the only issue you're going to have is the '88 heads have a different bolt angle for the center two intake bolts on each side. Otherwise, no issues with roller cam & distributor gear (factory roller cams aren't billet). Set the timing to 36 degrees total mechanical (set it with the vacuum disconnected) - so, yes, basically the same method as with the 383.
The 750 is too big, but jetting down won't be an issue. It'll probably bog off the line if you floor it, so just don't floor it.

1- I got a 650CFM main body that i can retrofit into my carb.
2- i have nothing against Fule injection but my 84 Z28 don't have computer
and electric fuel pump in the fuel tank that's why i want to go whith carb.
3- yes i have the distributor but since i don't want to swap the computer
i just want to put my HEI distributor on top of a Edelbrock RPM Air Gap
if it 's possible.

----------
O.K. you answer my question about the intake so i cannot use it because of different bolt patern
Can i use the mechanical fuel pump ?
Thanks again !

You can use the intake if you're willing to elongate the holes in the manifold to get those bolts in.
DLV555 answered the fuel pump question - yes, you can use it.
The '88 distributor will have a distributor gear that is "melonized" - a surface treatment - from the factory. It should fit on your '84 distributor, but there's been talk (that I haven't been able to verify) that the factory went to melonized gears on everything long before they went roller. To be safe, switch the gear or get a new one from the dealer.

Someone said; if you can't aford racing, well don't race!
I will post what's wrong with the stroker next week....

It really isn't that much work. But, a Performer intake would be better suited for the LB9 cam, and they are available in the '87-up pattern. They're also available used.
But, I know where you're coming from. Been there, done that. Except I raced a 17-second LG4 while the TH400 in the '57 waited for the rebuild.

O.k. check these photos and you will see the evidence.....
**** !

I was very disapointing because that motor has only 4,000 miles on the clock.
The crank was a brand new high performance Eagle cast 383 Internaly balanced.
