Engine Bay Pics (RHD) - Post yours

Just done the engine and trans rebuild. Engine bay is pretty much done (well it's never really DONE i guess, right) with the exception of redoing the heater core & hoses, minor detailing and stuff. I'm not completely happy with it (especially the steering shaft that the guy that converted it decided to put WAY too far over towards the block - great for headers).
Goin for the LT1 intake conversion too (intakes on its way)!
Also did the battery box thing and put an interior pic in.

Post your engine bay pics (LHD) in here too. Always good for new ideas and stuff.

Battery Box

My grandad made up a neat lil panel for the Painless switch and the solenoid is under the panel. Came up great. Ran the cabes through the fender, and under the sill. The battery cabe pops down through the floor to the left of the brake pedal. Insulated the cables with heater hose in potentially high-wear areas.

Re: Battery Box

The title is a bit misleading. I meant all engine bays, not just RHD ones.

Anyways, this post layed an egg.

Re: Battery Box

Here's one of my correct hand drive Changing a few things with it later this year like moving the fuel regulators off the firewall (always passes tech at the two tracks I go to but it's a no no) Plus an LT1 will be dropped in and this engine will be a backup.

Sweet! Why is it a no-no to put the afpr on the firewall? I was gonna do that when i set the LT1 intake up. Probably converting to parallel fuel rails from series - need external afpr and y-block.

Can it cause probs / fire or something?

One of the board memebers not too long ago had almost lost his whole car to a fire.

The gas had found its way though some small holes or whatever and started burning up under the dash.

I suppose this type of thing is why they dont want fuel on the firewall...

Somebody say FIREwall?
Well, here's why you don't put a turbo next to the firewall: VIDEO.
I just love that song...

How is your master cylinder on the LHD side Aussiroc?
I figured the conversions moved that part.
Having a RHD F body in the states would be a trip!!

There steering is a pain for fitting headers on a RHD car. What headers are you using? There the next thing I want to get for my car. I like you battery install. I think I will do something similar with mine.
Well heres a few pics of where I'm up to

Couple people have pointed out to me that in the NHRA rule book you're not suppose to put regulators on the firewall and I think they're suppose to be 6 inches away from it. The guy who had the fire on here had one of those see through gas filters bust apart. Said it was defective and shot fuel everywhere and some went into the air ducting under the dash.

There is a steel tube running parallel to the firewall and new ball bearing mounts made up to hold it. This tube is welded to the original brake plunger, and pivots on the bearings that are mounted up under the dash. When you push the brake lever, the rhs brake pedal, the tube its welded to, and the plunger all move as one on the bearings.
This way is the neatest, and you don't have to mess around with the brake lines, etc. Uncramps things under the dash too.

I used the headers available from Pontiworld (pontiworld.com.au). The bloke said they would have a 95% chance of fitting and heaps of guys down here run em. Anyway, $390-odd bucks for headers is expensive, considering they are around $90.00USD. The guy at Pontiworld will tell you these are great headers, etc, etc but won't tell you the brand. I did some detective work, and found out they are Summit brand headers (same as Flowmaster i think). Is it a coincidence that these are perhaps the least expensive headers on the market (low cost to Pontiworld = more profit)? And they just happen to be the so-called best fitting ones?
These headers did not even come close to fitting. Three out of the four tubes on the drivers side needed cutting, re-welding, bending, and crushing, and they still occasionally just touch. Not good.

I'll get off my soap box and say that if you have the steering column hole through the firewall as far left as physically possible (check dash and guage clearances obviously). Mine could have been moved over too.

Thanks, that makes sense. I will keep that in mind when i do the fuel rails/afpr/LT1 intake in the future.
My firewall is very swiss-cheesed.

Thanks for that. Most people have told me to get ones from ponti world. But I'm going to ring summit to find out shipping costs for their header. I wouldn't be surprised if they end up costing nearly $390 after shipping, currency conversion and tax.

The only reason i got em thru pontiworld is that i wasn't 100% sure they were Summit ones back then. Now i know, i'm pretty sure you would save a substantal amount if you got them from the States, even with shipping. Plus the dollar is up around 82 cents or something right now. Plus the Pontiworld/Summit headers sit less than 1/8 inch off the crossmember on both sides. Talk about disregarding fitment/ease of installation. Although most headers are prob like that anyways.
Look around and check the tube profiles of other brands too. Some look like they would fit better (or be easier to modify if required).
Also, save yourself a ton of grief, and buy a matching y-pipe (i should have). That way you won't have to get a muffler shop to fab up crappy non-mandrel ill-fitting pipes (sorta like mine haha). And it's pretty tough to accurately measure and fab all that stuff.

Finally, where u at?

I've been told that "down under", the water in the toilet bowl goes down in the opposite direction then up here in the northern hemisphere. Also the waves on the beach are supposed to break from left to right (instead of vice versa). Is it also true that with your RHD camaros, the motors rotate in the opposite direction? Why do you guys have to be so different?
By the way are they going to show "Bindi the Jungle Girl" in the US or are you guys going to keep it all to yourselves?

Actually I think most of the toilets just flush straight down the hole, they don't get the time to swirl. Someone posted a video on another site of them flushing their toilet to show us northerners that it didn't swirl. Looked like a better flushing design than our stuff

I was going to get my Y pipe made over here but I might at least be a quote for shpping it now. I could definitly see buying a pre made Y pipe being cheaper. I think I will be calling Summit soon because I also want a adj. panhard bar and edelbrock alloy heads.

I'v been taking advantage of the good Azzie doller. I just got an Ostrich chip emulator and chip burning gear of a guy on this forum as well a the CNC ported plenum off corvette plenum and some other gear.

I moved up to the Gold Coast last year to do an apprenticeship but my cars are still in my shed at my parents place in northen NSW. Low pay and my cars in another state have been driving me crazy.

I'v never paid enough attention to a toilet flushing to know which way it goes. But I did see it on the simpsons so it must be true.
You can have Bindi Irwin she annoys the hell out of me.

Not sure (ours are only a third full of water, and really FLUSH as opposed to just draining), Nope, Yes, Individually is a good thing, I'll ask her.

The shipping is pretty big on the y-pipe, plus they may only ship it to Brisbane or Coolangatta airport. They would only send it to Sydney if i got it thru Summit. Def worth a sus-out tho.

Nice engine bay btw. Cleaner than mine 4 sure

I like shinny things and can't stand messy engine bays and mine was a mess when I got it.
I'm working on the theory that if it dosen't make the car go faster it has to go.

For you guys to be really proud, you need something to compare to. Mine is a street sleeper so it had to look 100% stock. Like this:

How's that for clean?
(Left out the diverter valve, darnit)

Mine looked worse than that until i stripped probably 50-60lbs worth of crap outta there - leaking oil and water from everywhere possible i reckon. I have a huge pile of rusty old junk now (a/c setup, cruise, pollution/smog crap, wiper washer stuff, manifolds, rats nest wiring, etc).
Theres something strangely satisfying about stripping heaps of stuff out of the engine bay. Sorta like liposuction for f-bodys.

Shots taken at the car yard where i got her. The car yard guys thought it was a 1985 305. Paid roughly 6k less than what shes worth. Score!
