Oil leak

I've been attempting to stop an oil leak on my new motor. I have a new 355 forged internals, 11:1 comp, Edelbrock performer rpm heads. I am just about done with the fine tuning but I have an oil leak I can't fix. While Idling oil leaks from my valve covers. I replaced the seals twice With rubber gaskets no luck. I finally figured my valve covers are warped. I bought a new set no luck both sides still leak. I drove it earlier today got to 7500 rpms oil was everywhere under the hood. I'm using a high volume pump could this be causing my trouble.

Re: Oil leak

Could be making too much crankcase pressure, pushing out oil where ever it can. Why are you turning the motor to 7500rpms?

Re: Oil leak

I was stretching her legs, break-in is done. I floored it in third, she broke loose and over-revved. Regardless the problem exists at idle not nearly as bad. I have a new pcv valve. Has anyone run into this?

Re: Oil leak

That does sound like too much crankcase pressure. Does your new PCV valve actually work? Do you have a breather installed in the other valve cover?

Re: Oil leak

My new engine is doing this too. Leaking on the side that has the PCV valve. There is a breather on the other side. New valve covers.

Re: Oil leak

Sounds like you need to put a SHORT bolt with a drop of sealer on the threads in the upper one of the 2 bolt holes on the front of the motor, pass side, where the smog pump used to be.

Re: Oil leak

My engine is a 350 out of a 70 model truck. No smog. It is leaking from both valve covers. The brand new pcv is working. There is a breather on the other.

Re: Oil leak

No smog.
Duh. Right. That's what I just got through telling you, because it's obvious.

Doesn't matter what year it is, or whether it's out of a car, truck, go-kart, or what. If you hacked the smog pump off of your car, then there's a bolt hole that goes RIGHT DIRECTLY INTO the crankcase where it used to be bolted on.

Put a SHORT bolt in that hole, with a drop of silicone on the threads, to stop the leak.

Re: Oil leak

Those holes, the ones bottom of the engine, have bolts in them. My valve cover, which is on the top of the engine, is definately where my oil leak is coming from.

jtrescot:

It's real confusing to talk to 2 people about 2 different things.

I'm talking to TreyR, to whom this thread belongs.

If you have a different question or situation, you'll get bettter results by starting your own thread, than by arguing with somebody trying to help someone else about what they're telling them about some different problem.

Sofa:
Understood. I only posted because my problem was so similar. His initial post states that it is a valve cover leak - on both sides. Not trying to argue either, I respect your wealth of knowledge, and find humor in a lot of your replies.
