5.0 engine lagging

85 camaro z28 5.0 carb 91,000 miles

ive recently had a problem with the car. when at idle the car shakes and then stops then it just shakes.when driving the car tents to lagg when i step on the gas for take off (sometimes) when going up on a freeway on ramp the car totally laggs i have to drop the gears to get some power. when crusin when it changes gear it sound like the rpms drop and the car shakes then is all okay.ive replaced spark plugs and cables, o2 sensor, rebuild carb. all of this started when i made my car fishtale on a rigth turn with almost empty gas tank. what could be wrong with it?

Is the SES light coming on?

How are your distributor cap, rotor? Stock ignition module and coil?

Good thought. Could have lunched the rear. That'll make intermittent noise and suck power.

Re: 5.0 engine lagging

i dont think is the rear it still drives strong. i havent change cap and rotor or ignition. i had a feeling that it might be that and my friends told me the same thing. also their is little explosions coming out the exhaust and it takes time for me to start the car i usually have to pump the gas while turning the switch.

Re: 5.0 engine lagging

Maby a vacume leak.
Check all the major vac lines going from the carb/intake mainly the brake booster and the one from the intake (behind the carb) to the black box (sry duno what it is called, its for the interior controlls).

I had a large crack in the hose going from the intake to the black box once and the car didn't want to run.

Re: 5.0 engine lagging

i would suspect that you managed to suck up a good load of crud into the fuel filter or the sock in the tank...
