CFI go away !!!
At last !
I've taken the decision to throw away the CFI in my 305 ci 83 Recaro T/A...
I've been helped by some engine troubles : it runs on 7 cylinders, even after having redone the ignition. My mechanic says I have a broken vlave seat.
So we have to open the engine, doing not only a repair but a complete preparation.
Yet, I dunno what to choose exactly.
I want an alloy intake, a carb, a custom camshaft and a 5.0 HO twin-snorkel air filter...
I want an engine good for 300-330 hp, still drivable smothly and RELIABLE. Of course I'll replace the stock exhaust manifolds by 4-in-1 headers...
Does somebody has a precise kit or some precise parts to advice me ?
Holley offers a nice Systemax kit ( part # 300-502 ). They require a vacuum secondary carb. Minimum cylinder head valve size requirement is 1.94" intake diameter and 1.50" exhaust diameter. Compression requirement is 9.8:1.
Is it OK with my factory-stock LU-5 engine ?
Where can I find technical informations to remove my CFI without damaging another component ?
I'd like to keep the factory cruise-control, how can I ?
Please help me ! Here in France we don't have enough experience. And "specialists" are not honest enough to trust them...

A Comp Cams XE262 cam will do about as well as you can expect and retain good street manners.
An Edelbrock Performer intake manifold will match everything well.
Yes. You will probably have to modify cable mounting.

(No offense, just thought it was funny and seems to apply to what you said.)

He he, you're right !
I'm living in SOUTHERN France, close to Italy. Imagine how worse it must be ! LOL
Thanks for the useful info. Do you mean that even with another combo I have to change the valve size ? I even don't know how large they are on a LU-5...
I'll look for the camshaft you advice. Even if Summit doesn't seem to offer it...
I imagine a 600 cfm carb is enough. What about the fuel pump ? Do I have to modify the stock electric unit with a regulator or something that way ? I already had to replace it, it was a pain you know where !!!
I've read that a non-HEI distributor would be better for power. Yet, I'd like to install a rev-limiter. Any good idea ?
Last, but not least : I'm looking for a H.O ait filter to top the engine, either from a firebird or Camaro. If someone has one to sell, I'm interested !!!

Hum, Five7kid...
I've found the XE262 cam on Compcam's website. They say it is for 396-454 engines.
Don't you think my 305 will suffer this over-bore ?

Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: CFI go away !!!
The valves that come in those heads are 1.84" diameter.
The XE262 is a model number not a specific part number, made for just about EVERY American engine. It's not specific to one type of engine. Here's the one you want. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...CL12%2D238%2D2

You don't have to put larger valves in, it just helps a little bit.
An HEI distributor will be fine, but the one you have is computer controlled, and you need one that is not computer controlled. What you do there is really your decision.
A 600 CFM carb will be fine. For the fuel pump, you can keep the stock in-tank electric pump and use a return-type regulator to bring the fuel pressure down to 6 psi, or take out the electric pump and use an engine-mounted mechanical pump. Again, your decision.
The HO air cleaners are getting more rare and more expensive. A good alternative is available from ramairbox.com.
