350 short block. how would you build it?
Hey everyone I can pick up a 350 short block for $100 I was wonder on a budget what would be the best way to build it? So how would you build a 350 short block on a budget? (pistons crank heads cam intake carb ext.)
or maybe a 383 kit from northern for $500 idk how good it would be though.

i am guessing you have a 305 now so... your getting a short block... is there anything wrong with it? that you have been told anything sound funny right off the bat? NO? get it strip it down inspect everything if there isnt anything wrong with the crank or rods dont bother replacing them.
then you need to figure out what your plans are for the engine... like Daily driver, weekend cruiser, strip...
then we can help you from there

Re: 350 short block. how would you build it?
I just rebuilt my 305 and i put a cam in it and its bored .30 over and i put a non cc Q jet on it with a hei distributor. its fun. BUT its my 3rd car And I want it to be more then just a quick car... so i firgure since I just rebuilt it why not get this short block build it over some time put some money into it slowly and build it up then put it in when its done. So since its not going to be even close to a daily driver more of a street strip car. And everything seems good with this block crank and pistons. BTW it has 4 bolt mains

If the short block is ok, and you can get away with a hone. I would leave it as is, you can make alot of power on the stock short block.

It's going to be hard to build your 350 to match this without spending probably $2K for everything.
I am in the process myself of building a 355. I am doing it on a budget of under $700 and hope to put down at least 260 to the wheels.
I already have the StealthRam, Alum Vette heads, and a large comp cam.

Vortec heads would be a good place to start looking. They came off of later model chevy trucks.
The 'vette heads came off of..............Corvettes! I don't know what years though.
If you watch the classifieds you can find some used aftermarket alum. heads for the price of a set of vortecs/vette 113's and machining.
