Question for all 383 owners????

What way did you guys have your motor balanced??? Like was it an external crank, with netural balance flywheel?, and an external dampener? or was everything externally balanced...??? I am asking because I had my motor internally balanced and it seems the crank broke on me....and I think it was because of the way I had it balanced.

Mine is externally balanced. Your balancing didn't have anything at all to do with the crank breaking.

Re: Question for all 383 owners????

Where did it break; where they always do, at one end (most often the front end) of the pin for the #1 & #2 rods?

If so, balancing had NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with it. About the only thing that can stop that, is using a better crank damper than stock. NOT a Fluidamper or a Rattler or a chinesium one like a CAT; the only one that's anywhere near dependably effective is the ATI.

Re: Question for all 383 owners????

Yeah my little bro keeps a piece of one of my old 400 cranks, that broke off right there.... it sits on his coffee table, looking like a cast-iron pancake with a wart, just the front "throw" of that #1 journal, the counterweight, and the snout.... like I said, pretty typical. I was running a stock damper on that motor, too, just like you I guess.
