Engine dipstick

Ive tried to find a thread regarding this problem, but I didnt find any help.

I feel fairly retarded asking this question, but where the heck is the dipstick to check my engine oil level? At first I measured the tranny level believing that I was checking the oil, then I figured out that it looked a little red and didnt smell like normal engine oil.. then I searched the engine and I found the powerstearing dipstick.. Not much help there.

Ive used a flashlight and looked "everywhere", but I just cant find it. If anybody could do me a favor and give me a picture with a big flashing arrow pointing at the engine dipstick or maybe drive over here and point at it while slapping the back of my head... I would be very happy.

Thanks a lot guys.

Check for a black T-handle shaped thing near the tranny dipstick.

I dont think I have that T-handle. I might be blind, so I uploaded some pictures of the area. Is it just me, or am I actually missing that part?

Re: Engine dipstick

Hey Speedball , from the passenger side of the engine and looking at the
set of intake runners closest to the windshield, look down at the exhaust manifold and you should see your dipstick exiting the block. Perhaps the plastic "T" handle that says "engine oil" has fallen off somehow. A new
tube and stick with the "T" is about 13 bucks at the GM dealer. Hope you find it!

Hey Moe, no wonder the water don't work-
These pipes is clogged up with wires !

Re: Engine dipstick

Is it possible that the entire thing is gone? both tube and handle? which makes me wonder.. how the h*ll did the manage to put the right level of oil in my car when the oil was changed?

"these pipes is clogged up with wires" haha. Thanks for making me laugh!

Re: Engine dipstick

Hey Speedball , it is possible the tube with stick has fallen out from vibration
but you would notice the oil puddle under your car and coating that side
of the engine. Hope I could help.

Re: Engine dipstick

I just have a couple of drops of oil on the floor under the car, so I dont know. Can all of the oil run out if the tube is gone? Im sorry, but I dont know much about cars, but I am trying to learn as much as I can.

Can you get under it and look for the dipstick tube coming out of the pan?

Yeah I got a jack and some stands, so I should be able to get my lazy body under there to take a look.

Re: Engine dipstick

Well. my problem is that Im leaving the US next year and I cant take it with me. So I am trying to get the car working, BUT I dont want to spend too much money doing this since I am only going to drive it a few more months if I even get it back out there.. I have barely used the car since I got it.

Re: Engine dipstick

Here's where your dipstick should be (depends also on if it is in fact the original block as we discussed in other thread). If its a different casting it could be in a slightly different spot.

Right by the start solenoid there:

Re: Engine dipstick

Now that was the kind of picture I was looking for! I know where to look now Thanks Mr Doom

I will pass the car on to a friend of mine that just loves the car. I think he is willing to pay around 3 grand for it, so I think that is the best deal I can make. I dont even know how much the car is worth.
