did a burnout tonight...well kinda
had the rs out earlier and finally got a draggin rear brake problem i had taken care of so the neighbors were kinda given me a hard time so i backed to teh end of the driveway and lit em up........and the rpm would not exceed 1500, i've never had this issue before, i had it in drive, got it going she got pretty sideways till it finally caught and i couldnt get it up so to speak, what could cause this, i dont even have a clue where to start, if i put it to the ground she shoots right up but foot on the brake=1500 what gives?

If the rear tires are spinning the RPMs are going to shoot right up. If they are not spinning and the car is held in place firmly with the brakes it'll only load up against the converter as far as it will go, which is probably not much over 1500 with a stock converter.
Did recently fixing your rear brakes possibly cause them to hold the rear tires from spinning better than they had before and prevent you from breaking them loose while doing a brake stand??? Can't say. Just a thought.

Re: did a burnout tonight...well kinda
thanks for the input gents, i went to my tranny guy this morning and describing it he didnt think its the trans thats causing it like he said it should get to 1500 get em spinning and shoot right up.......so i went and got the car and brought it back over and we did one in his parking lot while he kept a close eye on what was going on same thing 1500 she wanted to pull through the brakes which is what it should be doing but i would not exceed 1500 rpm, the rear brakes honestly suck, he said it didnt appear they were holding the rear at all when it got spinning...he said it seems like its being restricted somewhere else..
heres kind of our thoughts, since the exhaust system is very free flowing, and hte car runs like a raped ape the rest of the time maybe the possibilites could be:
speed limiter? not sure how it would but maybe if i install the switch and override it things would change?
ignition module? have the stock one back in maybe see what happens with my accel on in there?
thats really all we got right now what you guys think? anyone have an issue similar

shawn i am just as lost, i can get em spinning before 1500 but after that the rpm will not go any higher and they just spin at 15, replaced the ignition module with my accel seemed to help a little bit she will roast em to about 2k but thats it, wondering if maybe its a timing issue or the knock sensor is retarding things cause something is funky there, back to huntin for me

Re: did a burnout tonight...well kinda
played with the timing and went to stock ran like hell, went to 8* and teh car is running awesome had the accel module in then put the gm one back in when we advanced the timing more and it really running good so last night i got it to break 1500 roasted the tires pretty damn good and set a code 42, for the est so now i gotta look into that but i think it gives me kind of a direction to go now
also got the console apart my dad has something in one of his books about the neutral safety switch and something with the vss, last night i could have sworn i saw something arc in the console so i'm kinda hoping i snagged some wiring in the shifter and somehow is how all this crap is going
