Is having peak torque and horsepower at the same rpm the best?

I can't figure out what is more important torque or horsepower. Right now i think i goes like this: the more torque you have the harder it is to slow your engine down by an outside (force such as weight), and horsepower is the amount of energy that the engine creates which equals more speed. I also understand that torque and horsepower crosses at 5252 rpms. So if torque and acceleration are important than wouldn't it be smart to make your peak horsepower at 5252. Because then you would have all your torque there too? I'm not sure.

I have an LG4. It come stock with 165 horses at like 4400 rpms. Peak torque is at 2,000. It redlines at 5000. The TPI version redlines at 5500. If i tune it for peak power and torque around 5200 rpms, would it be able to handle it. I realize this would require mostly a new cam, cam timing, heads, and intake manifold, but would it be smart?

wait. I just realized that even if your peak power is by 5200 doesn't mean your torque would be up there too. Isn't it harder to give your engine more torque? So i could gain 80 horses and only 50 ftlbs. And still tuning it for 5200 would give me a stronger powerband?

You're thinking about too hard.

For a street car, pick something that will give you a broad torque curve without having to spin the engine too fast to get peak torque.

ok thanks. haha. Still would a bigger cam kick up my peak torque rpms area. Like from 2000, to a more usuable 2500 - 3500?

Torque and horsepower are two diffrent ways messure power. Torque(lbs/ft) * rpm / 5252 = horsepower. So if you gain torque at ex 2000- 3500rpm you will also gain horsepower

not to mention that you would be had pressed to make the motor make peak hp and tq at 5252 rpm!

im figuring my turbo setup will have arround 900 ft lbs from 3500-8800 based on similar setups. and over 1000 hp thats a low figure. hows that for a broad powerband.

I can't think of a real life senario that would produce peak touque and power at 5252. Maybe a high RPM setup that has a torque peak over 5252 and a rev limiter to shut it down a 5252????
