Computer/ECM swap
The ECM in my car has the serial number 1227615. The car is an automatic with a 305 TPI in it. Will a computer from a carb'd motor or a car with a manual transmission in it work? Would it be worth buying a ecm with the same serial number and switching the PROM in it if necessary or would it be a better idea to find one with the right PROM in it?

Re: Computer/ECM swap
The number you need to find is a Service Part number, not a serial number. Any ECM with the same Part Number can be used and your PROM can be installed to make it functional in your car. Most of the 1985 305 TPI engines used the 1226870 ECM.

I believe what you're asking is if you take an ECM from a carb'd car if it will work in a TPI car.
I'm no #'s expert, but I doubt that would work.

Carbed ECM (CCC) will not work in TPI harnesses car. There are too many differences to list. Also, are you sure that you copied ECM service number correctly??? 1227615 - it maybe an odd ball service replacement number.

Yes, i know i have the right number. The motor is not out of an 85 in my car, somebody changed the motor in the past and put one from a 1988 in it so that is where i got that number from.

Re: Computer/ECM swap
Is the 1227615 ECM the only one i can use or would another one work? Would a computer with O.E # 16198445 work? How about taking a computer out of a car that has the same number on the ECM even with it not being a camaro and just switch the PROM out?

Re: Computer/ECM swap
I found an ecm with #1227619. Mine is supposed to end in 165. What would be the difference between these two? Would they interchange?
