Re: 383 cam

You might want to give some details about the engine you are going to use before asking for general advice.

Ex: Is it a roller-block? Using factory TPI? Aftermarket TPI? HSR? Staying with the 5-speed? Factory exhaust?

Cam selection is important and there are a lot of variables that go into choosing a good one for a given application.

Also, you should do a search... 383 cams have been talked about a lot on here.

Re: 383 cam

you didnt give that much info but a nice mild cam would be the performer rpm cam from edlebrock but a cheaper version and a bit more efficient would be the summit k-1107

ps i said that cam assuming your preety much building a basic small block

but like i said before you didnt give that much info im sure we could all give you a better idea of a cam but .. no info

Re: 383 cam

stock t.p.i for the time being, (till hsr)
exhaust will support 500 horses
stock swirlys with 2.02 1 60s, the rest is standard

Re: 383 cam

Best way,

Call cam maker of your choice, I've used Comp for many
years.Tell him what you have and intended use, don't
fudge on intended use.
They have a pretty large data base on what works in
specific applications.

TPI and HSR two different cam selections.
I'd wait till you go HSR and then cam for that
One cam combo cheaper than two

Re: 383 cam

Stock swirl ports on a 383?? That's a waste of a head gasket there
Upgrading to HSR and doing heads at that time?

More importantly, your CR is ok with swirl port heads and the long stroke?

Re: 383 cam

Comp XFI268HR-113. One of the best roller cams for TPI, period. Not sure if it will work with a stock MAP chip, but should be very easy to tune with a custom chip.
