Which Cam

.........It's been a while since my last post but always on here reading. It's time for a cam! My car is an 85 z28 LG4 auto. Canadian car so no computer. 9.5:1 compression. Car is stock and I'm keeping the stock heads. To the best of my knowledge, I have 3.08's. At WOT it shifts into second at 35 mph if that's any help. I have a high flow cat and a 2.5" dynomax catback but stock manifolds and y-pipe but considering headers and a full 3" exhuast. After researching the boards I'm leaning toward the xe256. What can I expect with this cam? What will happen to low end torque compared to the peanut cam? Should I consider the xe250? Thanks for any help......Zapr.

Re: Which Cam

The xe256he is a great bet for you. Don't bother with the 250, I don't even think the 250 is in the xe line, I thought it's a high energy straight pattern? Anyway, the xe256 won't kill low end or anything, it'll only help things.
I'd upgrade the valve springs while you're there. I might also look at a bigger stall speed on the converter. Not so much due to the bigger cam, but just because it's sleepy stock - might as well go up to 2400RPM or so.

If you're going to do exhaust and higher stall converter, you might as well go for more cam. The XE268 is a great street performance cam.

Ditto the valve spring upgrade.

Re: Which Cam

.......Ok. Would I be able to use the stock push rods with either of these cams? If not, would I have to use a different length? I was also wondering about discharging the a/c to remove the condenser. Is that something I can do myself, or should I have a professional discharge it? Thanks for the help........Zapr.
