valve spring question

I have the standard port vortec heads ported n polished stock spring ect... Im planning on a cam swap to the luntati voodoo Lift: .504''/.525'' Duration: 276°/284° cam.. the stock springs can handle the lift at all.. they are rated for i believe 480. can anyone help me to buy new springs that will take the lift of the cam plus 1.6's?? thanks

Re: valve spring question

First thing you need, is some machine work.... get the guides cut down so that the retainers don't hit them before they even make it to .480", and so that springs with an inner will go down over them; and since your machinist is already there, might as well get him to open up the pockets to where you can use larger diameter than stock springs too, since at that point it's basically free (all he has to do is chuck up the cutter with the larger OD).

Then, buy whatever Lunati recommends as the "premium" choice for the cam, since you're increasing the lift with the rockers.

Re: valve spring question

Your best choices are

-Beehives
-1.43" OD dual springs

You'd need to machine the heads for both I believe. You'll need to buy new retainers and locks for both also. Price them out and choose for yourself, I believe the 1.43" springs will be considerably cheaper, but you don't get the "frequency resonance" perks of beehives.

Re: valve spring question

I think im actually just gonna upgrade my heads.. Gonna do the Edelbrock e-tec 200's.. theyll support my cams lift with the 1.6's, theyre aluminum so im shaving weight and better airflow cause theyre 200cc compared to the 175cc stock rating on mine.. The GMPP vortecs i got are ported but not a serious job..

Re: valve spring question

That cam is too small for those heads. You'll make more power with the vortecs. Its easy machine work.
