Vortec Heads

Ok I currently have a pretty fresh(5k miles) Gen 1 350 in my camaro with some JUNK 882 heads on it. I put some .550 lift springs, an XE268 cam, performer intake, Holley 650DP, headers and full exhaust. My question is can I put a set of 1997 Vortec 350 heads on this block or is that a big negative?

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: Vortec Heads

No problems I'm aware of....

THey'll need some spring work of some kind, to withstand that cam. Other than that, it's one of the best cam designs for the characteristics of the heads. Should run good. You'll need a different intake of course; get a Performer RPM.

Re: Vortec Heads

I was hoping to go with that intake actually will any performer RPM intake work or do I have to get a Vortec one?

Re: Vortec Heads

the vortec heads will need a spring upgrade... cheapest and best ive seen or heard is still scoggin dickey at 680$ a pair assembled for .550 l lift and modified
site is SDPC2000.com

u will need a vortec style intake so urs wont work, u will also need vortec gaskets and bolt it. thats the bar minimum

Re: Vortec Heads

Aright I like the idea of the Performer RPM but should I go with a single or a dual plane? Any opinions? Thanks

Re: Vortec Heads

im not that savy with that kind of stuff.... but the intake has to be matched to the cam, the RPM range of the cam, and the type of motor ur gona be running, and the heads.

i know the single plane/dual planes like different patterns on cams, so u best bet would to call comp cams and see what they recomend with that cam, i believe single planes are more of a rever kinda of intake and like single pattern cams.... dont quote me im goin off of memory here. most street engines run dual plane i think. just get the performer RPM for vortec heads... i believe they make them
the vortec heads will give u a noticable jump in hp/tq. u will like the increases

The Performer RPM is a dual plane. That's what you want.

If you have the correct converter then go for it, otherwise keep the 268 and get a 3000ish converter.
