Oil Change Intervals
Here is the deal. I changed the oil in my car in April 2007. I am using Royal Purple oil with a Wix filter. I have put 650 miles on the car since the oil change and actually replaced 2 quarts (don't ask how I lost the oil).
When should I oil change again? I was thinking of not worrying about it until Spring 2009.

Re: Oil Change Intervals
That was the other thought. So you think that changing the oil annually is my best bet?

Very few miles, started and driven occasionally, Group 4 synthetic oil - annual will be fine.

Re: Oil Change Intervals
Fair enough. That will be my plan from now on. I did go 2 years before this last one. Now that she is running better and not overheating, I'm hoping to put on a lot more miles this summer.

If you're going to be driving it more, follow RP's oil change recommendations (don't know what they say off the top of my head).

When I say more, I mean 1500 to 2000 miles over the summer. Definately not the DD. Tried that, 245 tires with a 350 and snow is intersting.

Best bet would be to change it when you stop driving it - gets rid of any corrosives that may be in the oil before it sits.
Then changing it again before you start driving it again would be extra insurance.
Personally, I use AMSOIL heavy duty diesel 5W-30 (Series 3000) in my seldom-driven vehicles. Has a higher total base number to keep acids down. It is rated for spark ignition engines as well as diesel. In the '57, I change it before the start of the season each year.
