Melted my battery cables???

Ok so I was having a lot of trouble starting my car, battery problems mostly, so I kept charging it. And after trying to crank with the charger on it, the negative terminal would smoke a little.

Eventually my neg terminal connector burned in half and melted my neg wire, and halfway down it actually melted it into the positive wire

Do i just need to replace both cables? were they shorting to one another?

And don't the positive cable just run straight to the starter solenoid and nowhere else? I know how to run the negative cable.

Dang dude, STEP AWAY FROM YOUR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, you obviously are not qualified or get someone to help you.

Re: Melted my battery cables???

last year I got a hard knocks lesson on starters. it started when my starter went bad... put a rebuilt one in. no shim (shoulda used one). starter worked for a month. then the replacement starter jammed and kept cranking. pulled so much juice from battery that smoke came from positive cable. car wouldn't turn off starter at the key. more smoke. more panic! finally used a wrench and unbolted battery cable! after calming down bought a another starter this time with shims. got some help. car has been starting fine since then.

I'm not saying you have a problem with your starter shim but you probably do have a problem w/ your starter and now battery cables. like the previous post you might want to get some help on that starter and battery cable replacement.
