decent 305 cam?
Im going to switch to the 081 heads on my 92 305 TBI. Comp cams makes the K-Kit and i was just wondering how well it would work, it looks good since it comes with a new timing chain set, springs etc. The setups i am looking at are
Summit part #
212 @ .440 int, 212 @ .440 exh /@.50 110 LSA CCA-K12-206-2
218 @ .454 int, 218 @ .454 exh /@.50 110 LSA CCA-K12-210-2
230 @ .480 int, 230 @ .480 exh /@.50 110 LSA CCA-K12-212-2
my other option is the LT1 cam, thing is these kits look really good and arent super expensive basically will 1 of these cams work better than the LT1 (which i found specs that said its 202 @ .450 int/ 207 @ .450 exh/ 117 LSA.) i know the 110 LSA isnt good for TBI but might it have a little lope to it? because if i could find a good enough deal id really like my car to have a mild lope to it. just to get a little cool factor out of a 305 b4 i drop in the 383 someday. Thanks for the help.

Re: decent 305 cam?
?!?! Where'd you get those suggestions? No offense meant, but you're wayyy off! Those are comp's high energy flat tappet cams, completely bass-ackwards of what you want.
You have a roller motor, so get a roller cam. Also, get the 114LSA so it'll run right. Look at comps roller cams for factory roller motors, FI lineup.
Something along the lines of a compXR264H. I think TBI is a bit more forgiving than (expletive muted...) speed density TPI. I might be wrong, but I think TBI is blissfully ignorant to minor cam details, and therefore will run pretty good.
If you want a bit more info on camshaft terminology or anything, try reading the link in my sig.

Re: decent 305 cam?
TBI is LESS FORGIVING than SD TPI is with the cam detail, because the stock TBI ECM is slower than the TPI ECM.
Those 081s better not be stock or you are WASTING your time.

Re: decent 305 cam?
I was assuming no chip burning was to be done. I know if you sneeze at SD it'll screw up, so ya best be ready to burn a chip. Whereas MAF style TPI can take a few mods before getting wonky.
I thought TBI was basically like a mass-airflow TPI setup, ie it measures mass of air and injects fuel. Simple, crude, dumb, and works.
Am I way off base?

i think TBI is a speed density style setup... and dumb question on my part... guess i got too used to clicking the check to make sure this part fits ur application on summits website nd when it said it worked with a 92 305 i just assumed... might email them and let them know how bad that might screw someone up... so the compXR264H might have some lope to it?

On the cam issue, the cam will physically go into the engine, but you will have to use regular non-roller lifter pushrods (longer) and a different timing set (cam gear bolt spacing is different). The distributer gear is also different. It is a step back to downgrade from a roller cam anyway.

Re: decent 305 cam?
I installed a Herbert Cams roller in my 87 L69 305 with world 305 torquer heads and roller rockers. The cam specs out at 217/224@.050" & 112LSA and .500" lift with the Electronic Q-jet, stock alumium duel plane and headers. It runs great!...6500rpm, 1900 stock stall and 200R4 with 3.73gears...It took some timing and carb tuning but I finally got it right...no "Check Engine Lights" yet!!

After porting and polishing, my S/R Torquer 305 chambers cc'd at 64. No reshaping or resizing of the chambers in the process.

Re: decent 305 cam?
All of those cams you posted are COMPLETELY wrong for your setup.
You have a roller cam in your motor now. You don't really need a K kit, because that includes $lifters$; although you might possibly find that you could buy that and sell just those, and come out cheaper than buying all the other parts separately. You need a cam, timing set, and valve springs with all their hardware.
I'd suggest this cam here http://store.summitracing.com/partde...2D08%2D501%2D8 which is the same one Sonix is talking about; and see Comp's catalog for the other goodies to go with it.
Yes it will lope SLIGHTLY: which is about all your car can stand. "Lope" isn't worth a whole lot while watching the taillights of pitiful underpowered grocery carts disappear in front of you; that's EXACTLY what will happen if you jam in too much cam. Especially if you haven't opened up the exhaust and heads. 081s will at least take care of the "heads" part of that.... they get rid of that "ramp" obstruction in the intake ports that the TBI heads have. Since you already have some gear, the TBI-specific adaptations to the heads (swirl ports) are now a liability to you, instead of the "asset" to whatever extent that they are to a very-low-RPM design like the whole TBI CAR (not just the MOTOR) was.
