I actually took out my whole front suspension and got to them that way. Much easier IMO than monkeying around with a swivel through the spring...

I found a skinny-armed, teenage son motivated by wanting to race the car in the coming season came in handy for this task. . .
It would have been nice if they would have welded nuts in all the holes, or left bigger openings to get to the nuts inside the crossmember, but those things don't keep factory costs down.
I've got it to do again for the LS1 swap, and the Paragraph #1 tool above isn't available anymore. Since I'll be changing the front springs and installing poly suspension bushing while I'm at it, I plan on addressing the mounts while the a-arms are down. Really easy to get to then.

have 83 z28 used 1/4''drive with a long extintion and swivlle on the end witch is smaller than 1/2'' drive made easier also used a skinny son definately takes two people but can be done with a little patience
took about 30 min per side driver side is a little harder if i recall on bottom front bolt socket only goes on bolt just enough to get a bite and at a slight angle if you keep good prere on it and the person turing the bolt dont get carried away its doable good luck keep wrench'n
