92 RS 305 Weird Issue...

Yesterday I removed the circular pipe that goes from the air intake to the exhaust manifold on the stock 305 TBI from my 1992 Camaro Rs because it had a small crack in it. I haven't replaced it yet but noticed today while I was driving my check engine light came on.

I degreased the engine three days ago and it misfired a bit and was really bogging when I hit the gas, but it dried out and is fine now. The car runs just fine now and hasn't been misfiring at all and I assume the Check Engine light came on due to engine misfiring, but now it still comes on. I have to drive the car a bit for it to come on, but eventually it will.

New spark plugs and wires are in.

Can this hole cause a vacuum in the exhaust THAT BAD so that my check engine light comes on?

The car is driving fine.

the light only comes on after I am driving a bit and then come to a stop. That's when it happened today. It's running fine the entire time, though.

sounds like you have a different problem because taking that off shouldnt do anything but stop the motor from heating up so quickly in the cold.

it doesnt even enter the exhaust its only on a sheild around the manifold and takes the hot air from it. i forgot if it goes into the intake or just warms it i forgot its been a long time.

Vipershark11 is right. If the light comes on after resetting the Computer, then you must have pulled a vacumn hose off the EGK Valve or connector to the IAC sensor in the Air Cleaner. Either one will cause the light to come on after you drive a little bit. Check all vacumn hoses and connection that could have come off when you washed engine.

I found when I removed my air cleaner that there was an unplugged sensor wire on the rear near the outlet for the valve cover attachment.

That probably had a lot to do with it. I'll report later on if the light comes on. The car runs beautiful, so I am leaning towards a sensor being bad.

Maybe O2 sensor too, since my cats are rattling.

like they said it doubtful that hose would throw the light on, it just keeps you from warming your car up for a half hour in the cold, that wire on the back of the air cleaner was probably it, but i'd still just check your vac lines to be safe lol

an o2 sensor wouldnt be set off because of your converter rattling. the rattling just means over time the insides have broken and are just lying in there and moving around. my car had the same thing when i got it no light it was just broken so you have to replace it with a new one.
