A dealer might be able to make you one from the VIN#.

Re: Lost my key to my Car!!!

A mobile lock smith service is one option. If it's a key with a chip, the most reliable way of getting a new replacement key is to take your vin number to the local GM dealer, they can cut you a new key. If you go that route, might also take your registration in case they ask you to prove it's your car.

Good luck

Re: Lost my key to my Car!!!

Look for the assembly line build sheet inside the car. They're usually under the under the seats, carpet or behind the door panel. The key codes will be on that.

If you have the necessary tools to remove the steering wheel and lock collar you can take out the ignition lock cylinder and read the key code stamped on the side of it.

I think an '85 will be too old for the dealer to look up the key codes with the VIN#. I'm pretty sure the GM DealerWorld computer system only goes back to 1990.

Re: Lost my key to my Car!!!

i replaced my ignition not too long ago. Was about 20 dollars from the local autozone. That may be the cheaper route

Re: Lost my key to my Car!!!

I am a "part time locksmith". If you do not want to try this yourself I would go to an auto supply store and buy a new ignition switch with keys, then, find a locksmith to replace it. It can be frustrating to replace. You will save yourself some money buying it yourself, and you will not have to buy a couple of tools needed to do the job easily and correctly. I have not had to change mine but I do have the right tools. It should only cost mileage and labor, about 1 hour. $35 to $50 per hour. I know it is not cheap, but, if he messes up you can have him/her make it right. Randy

if you have a AAA membership you can call them and they'll send someone to your house to make a new set for free. i've done this before with my daily driver.
