Engine combo ???

This is my first engine build for my 85 camaro. I have a 400 sbc 2 bolt, reg scat crank, scat 5.7 rods, Keith Black Signature Hypereutectic pistons -18 dish, pro comp aluminum 64cc heads, an old edelbrock bow tie victor jr manifold, 750 holley vac sec, or 650 holly double pump carb, hooker shorty headers, new accel distrup, cam is still in the air between

Comp Cam Thumper Hydraulic Flat Tappet Cam
Adv/Dur: 279/297
RPM Range: 2000 to 5800
Intake/Exhaust Lift: .479/.465

or

Voodoo hydraulic flat tap
Lift: .468''/.489 ''
Duration: 262°/268°
RPM Range: 1400-5800

For a street car with 700R4 trans with about a 2400 to 2800 converter and 3.42 gears.

I am open to any thoughts or criticisms and help anyone is willing to offer, thank you.

Re: Engine combo ???

What's a pro comp head? What CC intake ports do they have? I would think a cam with 225-230 degrees of intake duration @ .050 would be about right for a driver. Something like the comp xe274.

Re: Engine combo ???

Pro Comp is made by Comp cams isn't it?
Skip the thumper cam. Go bigger on the voodoo, 60104 or so (equiv to xe274h).
Duration @.050 is more important than the specs you've listed.

Re: Engine combo ???

I believe Pro Comp is a company out of Australia with their heads poured in China but machined in Australia. There products are starting to creep into parts mags like JEGS. They have 190 cc intake ports. I believe the 406 with beable to breath, I've heard sbc 400 make alot of low end torque so i might go less on the cam, with the compression around 10.2 hope to get around 400 hp and at least 350 hp in the camaro. Goals is to beat new GT mustangs or other stock production cars that cost about 27K.

Comp bought them out Pro Comp and renamed it RHS (they used to have a business under that name, some sort of family squabble, now it's back). I wouldn't trust Pro Comp's old stuff.

That intake has got to go. It's powerband is more like 3500-8000 RPM, nothing else you're planning even comes close. A Performer RPM would be much better suited to the task.

If you're going vacuum secondary, make it a bigger one. A 750 DP is bare minimum.

You probably need better headers, too.

Re: Engine combo ???

With the intake I was planning to use one or two 1" four hole carb spacers to get more viscosity. The heads check ok at the machine shop and have the steam holes in them. The header will have to do for now but was looking to get some tri y headers in the future. The carb will also have to do to but will have it tweak when I have it put on an engine dyno.

I assume you meant "more velocity".

That's only a partial fix, if any at all. Sell it and get a Performer RPM if you want to drive the car on the street.
