Smoking Valve Covers, Sticky Spark Plug
I just got my camaro running last week and took it out for a spin i noticed that i had some smoke coming out of the valve cover breathers so i pulled the number 1 and 2 spark plugs and number 2 is clean and 1 has oil on it.. the smoke out of the valve covers is from oil.. one of my buddies suggested that i have a leak coming into cylinder from the intake due to a bad intake gasket (i didn't use silicone when installing the gasket)... i have not pulled the valve covers yet though to check for maybe a over tightned rocker etc..
any suggestions b4 i start taking off my intake to replace the gasket?
my motor is a 350 carb w/ approx 1500 on the rebuild b4 i bought it.

bump... i really need help w/ this.. its driving me crazy
Re: Smoking Valve Covers, Sticky Spark Plug
could be the intake gasket but i think its unlikely unless a crappy gasket was used or there was junk on the mating surfaces. to what extent was the engine rebuilt? were the heads gone through? leaky valve seal on that cyl?

Smoke from the valve cover breathers: Do you have a PCV valve installed?
Oil on a plug: Could come from rings or valve seals too. I've personally never seen an intake suck oil from the bottom side, but I suppose it's possible. Is there any reason the intake might not fit well, like decking of the block or milling of the head surfaces?

I don't think yelling is going to help.

The Motor was bored .30 over so i know that new piston rings were installed and it drove fine during that 1500 period b4 i got it.. all i did was install a cam and intake from summit on the motor.. and no there is no Pcv valve its a carb motor w/ no emissions also i'm not sure if the heads were re done when the motor was rebuilt

Re: Smoking Valve Covers, Sticky Spark Plug
Add a PCV valve. I can't imagine what kind of carb, intake and motor you have that wouldn't expect one. Otherwise blow-by (and there is always some amount of it) is going to build pressure in the crank case. Oil will then proceed to find it's way around your seals in short order.
Next off if you still have problems, you determine how oil is getting into cylinders, not by ripping things apart (at least not right away). You do compression or leakdown tests first. You haven't said anything about smoke coming out the exhaust, so I assume that you aren't burning enough oil to notice any?

Re: Smoking Valve Covers, Sticky Spark Plug
as far as i know i'm not burning oil however my friend did say that the one time i launched it he saw a small puff but thats it.. as far as i can tell only the number 1 plug somewhat covered in oil thats it. i'll do a leak down and compression test and check it out.. also i don't think i need a pcv because i have breathers on both valve covers so the pressure is coming out
as far as heads go i have been looking into heads just can't afford it right now.. i could possibly ask my rents to the $$ but which heads would work?
