Good Combo?
Well i finally had good luck and found a camaro with the iroc kit and a short block 305 for 50 bucks. I found out its in 80-85 block with 2 piece seal standard bore. I want to leave the bottom alone and for the heads im not sure. I have thought about leaving them stock or getting the world torquer heads for the 305. I have picked out a lunati cam the 292 bracket master II and edelbrock ram air gap intake and an edelbrock 600cfm carb. What power can i expect from this combo? My friend has a 98 mustang gt with dumped exhaust and is giving me crap. Oh and also should i use a mechanical fuel pump? Im putting this motor in my v6 camaro. Thanks for any help.

Need to know what heads are on there now. Pull a valve cover and get the casting # (actually, pull both valve covers and get the #'s - never know with an engine that's been replaced).
That's a lot of cam for a 305. Hope you have about 3500 stall planned for the new transmission you're going to get for the swap.
If you want to outrun things, an Edelbrock carb is not what you want.

Re: Good Combo?
There arent any heads on there. As for the cam im not sure about that one question. The heads are world s/r torquer heads 1.94x1.500 valves 170cc intake. The cam is hydraulic with 292 duration and .480 gross lift. Some guys at work said that would combo would be right at the peak because of the vaccum i need for the brakes. Does anybody need know what kind of numbers i would make with the stock heads and with the world heads.

Drivetrain loss is typically 15-20%.
So, 260-290ish.
It won't have any guts at low RPM, though.

Hey, I'm in a positive-thinking-only zone . . .
Yes, compression will make a difference. Dished pistons and stock head chambers will make for low CR. And, the engine will have to spin pretty high to make power - a 292 cam is pretty radical on a small cube engine, perhaps more than stock rod bolts will like.
Desktop Dyno put my Crane 2050 cam'd, flat-top piston'd, ported World headed 305 at 360 HP @ 5600 RPM (if memory serves - I remember the HP #, not sure about the RPM). On the track, using different conversion formulas, more like 230 RWHP at sea level.

Re: Good Combo?
I was told by my friend who builds chevy motors that those heads will raise the compression. Im looking for the 9:5:1. I knew i needed to raise the compression for the cam. Eventually I would like to get domed pistons to help with the compression.

58cc is the stock chamber for 305 heads (3rd gens, anyway). Putting World 305 heads, or stock factory 305 heads on a 305 won't raise the compression.
Putting them on a 350 would raise the compression.
9.5:1 is stock CR for '83-'85 L69, and '85 & '86 LG4, using 4-valve-relief (5cc) flat-top pistons.
