fuel relay on 84 t/a??

does my t/a have a fuel pump relay. its a mechanical fuel pump, so it shouldn't have one right?? i am trying to figure out how to hook up my heated o2. i don't want it running all the time, just til it goes into closed loop. i put a simmilar post in another spot on here but did not get the answers i needed. i was directed to search for some old posts by Vader, but all i see is for newer years. i know the 82-84's are different. please, please help me out here. my longtube installation is almost done. this is goin to be the only thing that holds me up.

Re: fuel relay on 84 t/a??

all 1984 h.o cars had a in tank electric pump. the relay is mounted right by your fan relay by the brake booster.

Re: fuel relay on 84 t/a??

IIRC the L69 cars had an elec in-tank pump to cure a vapor lock problem attributed to the fuel feed line running so close to the exhaust. When you turn on the key do hear anything that sounds like an elec pump? Like Badnews said the relay should be located up in the corner to the right side of the brake booster. Not sure which is which, you'll have to check a diagram or maybe some else who knows will chime in.

Re: fuel relay on 84 t/a??

ok. i'll check tomorrow. i'm right in the middle of doing the motor mounts. so i will be pulling the suspension down. i just never heard of any body putting a mechanical and an electrical fuel pump in a car. not saying its not poss, but damn.that would be weird to me.
thanks guys. i appreciate ur help.
Jay.

Re: fuel relay on 84 t/a??

If you hooked the o2 up to the fuel pump relay it would be on all the time.... Why not just hook it back up the way it cam from the factory except on the headers? It should work good that way, and it's probably a cc carb, which means it will advance your timing until in closed loop. That just helps the engine warm up faster.

do u think that would work? where would all the wires go. its a 3 wire o2. so 2 white and 1 black. 1 white goes to grnd. i have tyo look at the wire diag on the o2. i forget where they all go.
