my oil smells like gas, and i am pretty sure that it is getting gas from somewheres. I don't know whats going on could it be possible that i'm set up way to rich? my timing is definetly off, i changed to an edelbrock intake and just cant get it set up right. If you have a mechanical fuel pump check the diaphram.

i might have an idea why its running rich, i did this cause she was leaking and was told i could just cut it, i blocked off the return line with a bolt that goes to the tank from the pump, could this be a problem?

 

that return line would be good to have... get that hooked back up properly

 

if your running a rochester then thats probably your problem, its killing me at a fast pace and is always a scene to adjust.drop it if so and go DEMON

 

95% of the problems with Rochester carbs is what is done to them, not what they do.

You said the return line was leaking and you cut it and blocked it off. If you did that as you described, you should have fuel pouring out of the return line of the pump.

If you blocked off the return line from the pump with a bolt, the pump will put out too much pressure to the carb, causing it to flood.

The diaphragm is part of the mechanical pump. If it leaks, it will put gasoline into the engine oil.

It sounds like you need to rehook up the return line to the pump, though.

 

i didn't have a chance to try it out today, but ill do my best this weekend, i sure hope thats the problem,
