Serial number just matches the last few numbers to the original vehicles VIN number. Get the stamped number sequence on the pad in front of the passenger side head. It will something like V0520CFT

Yes the engine # is K0491560. This may have been out of a early 90's passenger car or truck.More likely a car, probably not a firebird or camaro. Thanks for your help

If K0491560 is the last part of the vehicle's serial number, K is the year code. K = 1989.

You need the suffix codes to know exactly what it was from. The serial number tells nothing.

Re: Need help w/ engine code - serial number K0491560

I looked thru ebay 88-96 chevy vin #'s and I found two 89 Silverado & one 89 van all ending in K0000000.I agree at this pont it's an 89, 305 motor. I may never know what it came out of. Now I need to find out if everything on a 88Pont TA block is the same as this one.Hopefully no missing sensor holes or drilled at tapped mounting holes or whatever. Thanks all 3rd gen member that have helped out.

Stamped in the block right where the serial number is stamped will be a suffix code. Get that series of numbers.

All vehicles made in 89 will have a serial number in the K0000000 range
