Takes awhile to start

So I searched the boards but haven't really found anything. 5.7 TPI GTA Fires right up when its warm but sometimes it will take 5 or 6 revolutions and a bit of pressure on the gas pedal to finally catch...when it does catch it runs rough for about 10 seconds and Idles fine after that...

It's warm where i live...

Now from what i hear your not supposed to give a fuel injected engine gas on start up....but if i don't it wont start or will take awhile! why?

Suggestions?

Fuel injs may be leaking fuel into intake after shutdown causing a flood condition. Do a fuel press decay test.

Hookup a fuel pressure gauge to it and see if what the reading is and if fuel pressure drops after the pump primes.

Actually thats exactly whats happening, took it to a shop today for a tune up (Cap, Rotor, Plugs, Wires all needed replacement...was sitting for 6 years in the elements) honestly I feel stupid for being lazy and wasting so much money...believe me i regret it...should of done it myself and LEARNED something...but i was afraid id screw it all up, or not be able to get at the spark plugs or something...

The guys said it took 12 ****ing hours to get it all done and they were really fighting with it...they only charged me for four...but wow...

Thinking this would clear up the problem...the mechanic said a few injectors are leaky cause it dosen't hold pressure when the car is turned off. He said the car is basically flooding it'self slowly when its off so thats why when it sits its harder to start.

Makes sense...but yeah i'm rather disappointed the tune up did BARELY anything power wise...but oh well...had to be done...lots of **** was corroded and dirty

I'm becoming disillusioned already.

Waaaayyy to much but thats because they cleaned the injectors on top of the tune up. I refused to replace the injectors cause thats apparently a quoted $1800 job....uhhh no thanks.

I guess the only thing i got out of this is that now the cap/rotor/wires/ and plugs are replaced i wont have to worry about them.

Everyones all like It's an old car get a tune up, yeah get a tune up, tune up this tune up that, yea getting spark plugs, wires, ect replaced and all that shizz makes a world of difference....yeah throw half the cost of the car itself at it without any real return.

Sigh...i dunno

What gets me is i have a shop to do it myself, I could probly get the tools, i know people who could help...but i'm a lazy *** and feel like i don't know enough to do it myself.

and uhh the injectors apparently cost around $125 EACH...and on labour to that and you get the point.

Glad to hear you've confirmed the problem.
I'd get another mechanic or learn to do the maint. Those prices are waaay out of line. Especially since the Canadian and US dollar are almost 1 to 1 nowdays.

The cap, rotor, plugs and wires are good to replace every 2 or 3 years anyway. You could definately do that yourself.
I worked in a tune-up shop a few years back. The inj cleaning is probably a machine connected to fuel sys that pumps straight fuel inj cleaner into the fuel manifold thru the press test port. It sometimes helps a little, but ususally not very much.
The injs most likely don't need replacement, just need to be disassembled, cleaned and flow tested.
There's a vendor refered to in many posting on this site as doing great work on injs for a fair price. The place is crusing performance, and the guys name is Rich. Here's a link. http://www.cruzinperformance.com/fuelinj.html
Pulling the injectors is a bit of a pain the first time, but gets much easier after you do it a couple of times.
Also, if you don't want to send the injs out and just wanna to replace them, Ford injs work just fine and they are a lot cheaper (at least they were a couple years ago).

In the mean time, to help start the hot eng, hold throttle on the floor while cranking. This puts the ECM in "clear flood" mode and turns off the injs so your not adding more fuel to a already flooded eng while cranking. Just be ready to let off the gas as soon as it starts to fire up.

I had the same exact problem, a few of my injectors were leaking. I sent all 8 to cruzinperformance and problem sovled. No need to by new ones unless they're really bad.

ah, so would leaky injectors cause the car to start hard and then fire like an old front engine fighter jet? like put,,,,put,,put,put,vrooom! ? along with a white puff of smoke?(just did my valve seals).
