So I got a pushrod length checker to figure out what length pushrods I need. It's plastic and looks like a rocker and slips over the stud in place of a rocker. Directions say with the lifter on the round base circle to position the checker over the stud and see if it contacts the pushrod and valve evenly at the same time and if not to measure the difference. Which lifter is in the proper position to take this measurement with the crank and cam sprockets dot to dot? I assume I just set the checker on top of the stud with no preload on the lifter correct?

 

Also does anyone know if LT1 roller lifters are the same height and everything as the lifters used in our roller engines?

 

Just roll the engine over until you're on the base circle on one lobe, then check that one.

Those are junk though. I have one and only used it once, and realized how hokey it was.
Get the one that looks like a pushrod, with a nut on it's middle area. You adjust it's length, and check witness marks.

Sorry, I don't know LT1 lifters vs normal.

 

It looks really close, maybe the thickness of a matchbook in difference, didn't get a chance to measure it yet since my feeler gauges are at home, will such a small be a problem?

 

i just measured the gap between the valve top and the checker and it's about .05, with one of my roller tipped rockers on it appears to be perfect.. Do I really need 7.15 pushrods? Do they even make them?

 

I am with Sonix I have one also to date every motor I oput together even stock the tool is wrong on push rod size the best way is to use an adjustable push rod and a light spring with the rocker you plan on using mark the top of the vaulve roll the motor thru you want it to be centered with the least amount of motion.

 

No idea where to get one locally and I don't want to have to pay summits fee to order one, I guess I'll just order stock length, they really close anway..

 

Manley 25741-16's are 7.150" long pushrods. I have them in my engine now. Or you can get part number 25717-16 pushrods, which are 7.170" long and are made for stock to mild roller cam engines.

We also sell that type of pushrod length checker, and I agree its kind of screwy. If the checker hits the valve first, then you need longer pushrods. If it hits the pushrod first, then you need shorter pushrods.

LT1 roller rockers are made for centerbolt valve covers and "should" fit our engines with no problem. But dont take my word for it, I dont know if the LT1's use a different type of rockers.

 

As far as the roller rocker compatability, they are gen 1 sbc roller tipped rockers. I was asking if the lifters were the same height etc. Thanks.
